Here's a problem that I cam up with:

Joe Cyber decides that he's going to shoot a Mitsubishi Nightsky Limosine
with an Ares Mp-LMG full auto. 9 shots 16D damage. I can see that the
Nightsky has a Body of 5 and an Armor value of 3. What do I have to
roll? Does the car explode in a big ball of flames. Does it go ping? I
need to know.

Nightsky has a TN 8 (16-5-3), and he roll with 6 dice (5+(3/2 round
down)). Now he must roll at least 2 success, if he want to live.

One rule we use for personal weapons vs vehicles is halve the damage code
and lower the damage level by one (or sometimes two). So the 16D would go
down to 8S. Seemed more reasonable, since most of bullets will go
straight through, leaving tiny holes. This works ok, but it isn't
perfect by any means. If someone has a better idea, I'd like to hear it.
I have problems with the numerous stageups that can occur when using
combat pool. How do you keep that from getting out of hand? It seems
kind of odd that light machine gun, smartlinked, can fire 6 rounds (13D)
plus stageups from combat pool and skill. Assuming 12 dice (gunnery 6,
combat pool 6) one should be able to average at least 6 successes under
most instances. So the car has to be able to get 6 body successes before
it can even start to stage down the damage. Am I missing anything?

Well, hello, and welcome to the list.(Bull the welcome bot will be here
shortly:-))

Now, what would happen if Joe would like to call a shot, say to the
engine or gas tank. What would happen then? Is there any pool that car
could use to upgrade the number of dice that it uses to resist? How much
does a harpoint/firmpoint cost to put on a vehicle? I hope you like mail

Yes, but maybe I'm missing. The lower Damage Level is ok, but the Damage
Code isn't the halve. It's a rule form SRII. But everybody play it as
they please.

The Rigger's Black Book version 2.0 is supposed to have a redone
vehicle/pedestrian combat system, according to FASAMike. If you can wait
until Gen-Con time.

It goes 'pingpingpingpingpingpingpingpingping!' (not unlike the list at
times;)

When checking that you add the Armor to the Body, then check against the
Base Power Level of the weapon (ie the Power Level of one bullet, 7 in
this case).

5+3=8>7, so the bullets don't do any damage.

It seems to me that everyone seems to miss something here: vehicle armor
is hardened. The base power of the weapon was 7, the Body plus the Armor
was 8. Unless I've goofed, that sounds like PING! to me.

Add the Barrier Rating of the glass to the driver's armor. Just like

Hmm... I think you are wrong.... in the section about weapons, spells and
vehicles (or some combination of the three) it says if the base power of
the weapon does not exceed the armor (not the armor plus body), the round
doesn't penetrate...

Does the rigger get to roll Control pool or Combat pool to help resist

Almost right. If the Power Level is less than, or equal to, the Armor
Rating of the vehicle, the shots bounce off. Although the vehicle's Body
counts as armor for resisting damage, it _isn't_ the same as the Armor
Rating. Firing 9 shots from the LMG would cause the Nightsky to roll
against a TN of 8.

You're mixing SRI and SRII rules here. In SRII, you only lower the
weapon's Damage Level by 1, so a single shot would be 7M (normally 7S,
from an LMG), but with the 9 rounds it would still be 16D.

In SR1, Power Level and Staging were halved and the Damage Level reduced
by one, so for example a 10S4 weapon would be only 5M2 against a vehicle.
Only part of this carried over to SRII, though.

If it gets through, the driver gets extra armor based on the Barrier
Rating of the glass. Usually, this is the base rating, adjusted for the
amunition (APDS would halve it, explosive doubles the BR, etc.).

NO, no, no ping! The stage rating is just the armor, not the armor+body.

I don't think it, that's ok, an armored vehicle has a stage, and if the
stage bigger, that the base power level, then no effect, but the stage
is just the armor point, not the armor+body.

Unfortunately it seems I was wrong:( No the first time, won't be the
last.

Correctly (or so I'm told:) you compare to base power of the weaon to the
vehicle's Armor -alone-, without adding in the vehicle's Body. So, your
sammie's LMG would penetrate against the Nightsky, but he won't get very
far against a Steel Lynx.

If he is a rigger, and he is cibernetically linked, then he can add
extra dices from his Control Pool. But he isn't a rigger, or not has a
cibernetically link, he nothing can add. The Combat Pool don't good for
the vehicle's Resistance Test. But if the driver or a passenger damaged,
they can add Combat Pool to their Resistance Test.

Only riggers who are jacked into a vehicle have a Control Pool in the
first place. Since Control Pool can be used for things like damage
resistance for the vehicle (last sentence in the left-hand column of page
108. SRII), only riggers who are actually using their VCRs to control a
vehicle can do so.

<munchkin>Now, how about if you modify a vehicle so two or more riggers
can jack in at the same time. Would they add their Control Pools
together?</munchkin>

Keep in mind that that's only for the damage taken by the passengers
themselves, not the vehicle.

I wrote this too, or not? (Although I forgot to write: if the driver
isn't a rigger, he (or she) could has Control Pool in no wise. If he has
a VCR, he is a rigger.)

If two or more rigger jacked in a modified vehicle, they add their
Control Pool together, but the maximum number of dice that he can add,
is equal to the base number of dice in the test.

Personally I read this as a house rule ("One rule we use...")...
soooo... so therefore it can't be wrong ;) I think he was just tryin

<Bow to Shane>

You are correct. I'm just fiddling around with different rules.

Do you think I should have made clear I wasn't trying to say he was wrong?
All I was doing was pointing out the "official" SRII rule, to prevent the
sort of confusion we've had before when house rules and DLoH quotes were
mentioned... *goes to stairs, just in case*
