A player of mine came up with this character, and frankly, it scvared the
hell out of me.

A sorcery adept, resources on A, Attributes on C.

The guy had a willpower of 10 a body of 9 anmd a combat pool of 10.
He also had a magic pool of ( and an armor rating of 7/6.
(=9, sorry abou that one.

He also had an intelligence of 9.
And ofcourse he pulled this al of using spell locks.
He suffers no drain most of the time, even from the most heavy spells.
He has four Foci on him, but is absolutely not affraid of any magic used
against him.
"Well, maybe they can spot me easily, but with 19 dice in my defense, I'm
like a fragging tank"

Did I mention his initiative: 8+4D6

And that's just a beginning character.
Don't you guys think that's a little overpowered ?

Heck, that's easy. Just set up a ward for him to walk through,
and watch him look in horror as all his cherished spell locks go up in
smoke. (Can't use your vaunted magic pool to defend your Force 1 Spell
locks against their Astral Combat with the Rating 6 Ward).
Then while he's complaining about his "lost" abilities, have the
nice sec-guards take him down with a nifty Sentry Barrett sniper rifle.
QED.

why does he have 19 dice? The MAX magic pool he could have starting off would
be about 13 sorcery/spellcasting 5(7) and power focus 6

now - he could have two spell catagory foci at 6 (combat and manip)
But he wouldn't have diddly for force points.

Further More - to defend his spell locks - he would have to allocate those dice
specifically to them.

PLUS - he CAN NOT defend them from an astral attack. ONE elemental could ruin
his whole day!

>Don't you guys think that's a little overpowered ?

no - just not well thought out.

Just a check, but wouldn't the spell locks prevent him from going through
the ward (an astral wall) rather than the spell locks falling off of him or
entering astral combat?

No, the ward (or any other astral barrier for that matter) will attack
anything which tries to pass through it on the astral plane. The thing which
gets tricky is just _how_ the mechanics of it work. From the Grimything we
find that all foci, spells, wards etc have a damage track (same as a
character), and take damage to this. Just how one goes about this isn't too
clear (from what I gather, you'd need a force 6 ward at least to kill a focus
in one hit, otherwise the magician could just back up and the focus would
not be attacked any further by the ward). Anyone care to clarify the
appropriate rules for me?

Yeah for about five minutes - until the first mage flies by in the astral :)
Your player will just sit there and feel superior cause he has no way of knowing
or preparing himself until the first spell hits him :)

yeah, just a bit! :)
I created something simular once while waiting to go to the mall, then figured
how to easily destroy him by the rules,
grounding through the foci and spell locks (discussed a couple weeks ago)

Pahleeeeeeze. Don't make me laugh. First off, he can't see into the
astral plane. So he won't even see the attacks comeing. Sure, he'll be
able to feel the bleeding things, but if you sick three force (Anything
above 3) elementals after his spell locks, and ground a force (anything
above 5) hellblast into him one after the other, He will have to pull all
his defense dice out every action. And well, let's just say that the
remains after the explosion won't be pretty.

He could just turn the thing off.

Yes, but he'd have to knoew that a ward is there in the first place.
Being a mage without perception can really suck some times no?
