Hello everyone,

This is my first post; although I've been subscribed for a while now, all
I've done is lurking. So please, if in any way I am not correct just be
patient. :) Now my question:

Does background count affect Physical Adept powers? Which one do think
would be the "theoretical" explanation? Also, if it does. How would you
manage it? From what I've read, Background Count is a term that implies
that magic is affected in some way, but not all of it. Would all my
physical adept power be affected at the same time?

Thank you,
Pepe

Eww... you *HAD* to pick a difficult one right off the bat/beginning ... didn't you??? ;P

Okay, IMO, any adept power that is going to work across a distance or is going to have an
influence over or between the Adept and a given "target" should be effected.

Distance Strike for example. It crosses/traverses the distance between the Adept and
his/her target.

Emapthic Sense, Astral Perception, Combat Sense (possibly, hard to quantify this one) and
the other similar abilities should be interfered with just as if the individual were a
normal magician. The "normal senses" (Thermographic, Low Light, Augmented
Hearing, etc...) shouldn't be influenced because IMO they are merely altering the
perceptual abilities of the adept directly, and not dealing with a "higher/abstract
sensorium" that Astral Mediums would be involved in.

You *may* want to make Attribute Boost modified on the drain end as well (check the rules
in MitS for guidelines on such).

These are just some suggestions, and do actually go a LONG way towards bringing the
advantages of the Adept more in line with the Street Samurai (his mundane counterpart).

It normally does not, because adept powers don't require any magical
skill tests or active manipulation of mana. The only one I can think of
that clearly is affected is astral perception- like any astral activity, its
difficult where there is a BGC. "Distance stike" might also be affected by
a BGC, but I don't recall it saying clearly one way or another.
Now, if you go into an actual mana WARP (BG count over 5), then adept
powers are affected (thier magic rating is reduced, and they can only use so
many PP worth of powers at a time), but that's because there isn't even even
mana for the powers to use- in a warp, mana isn't just "colored"", it is
either radically altered or severely reduced. MiTS expalins the theory and
rules behind this.
