Subject: physads' killing hands

In response to Philip Steele:
(sorry I didn't include original text, I don't have any way to edit out text)

From a non-magical, physics-laws-applying point of view, that would be right.
But, since the rules on the ability say that a physad can sucessfully attack and
kill and character who is wearing armour, which is decidedly tougher than the
light materials that a regular commuter vehicle, using kevlar weave and all oth-
er sorts of penetration and impact resistant fibers...

If a physad can attack something that is *decidedly* tougher than his own hands,
that would imply that the magic augments both the protection of the hands and
the offensive capabilities. I would say that the thin skin of a regular vehicle
applies. Your argument was applying to the unprotected human hand. While one
can train and toughen the bone to resist more than the average person's there is
obviously a limit. Muay Thai kickboxers, for example, have been seen (and re-
corded on film) breaking a baseball bat with a shin kick and denting an aluminum
one. When you step past all that into the realm of magic, it is another story
entirely. Limited, naturally, but far outstripping normal human ability.

The point of all that: I think that the ability of physads to attack a vehicle
is evident. Naturally, an armoured vehicle will be as resistant to such attacks
as any other magical attack (notably combat spells, etc. which are not nearly so
effective against armoured vehicles as players would like).

What I was looking for was some input on how people interpret the resistance of
vehicles to these attacks.

I'm not pulling a counter-thwap (perceived or otherwise) here, I just thought
that your point was poorly supported, or rather, supported with data that wasn't
relevant to the question (i.e. real-world physics in reference to magic).
Thanks for discussing it. :)

Anybody else out there have any interpretations of their own? I am playing a
physad and since I got lev-S killing hands for her, I'm looking for all the uses
I can squeeze out of it.

One other thing I've been wondering about, I want to sound off the net. I not-
iced that this attack can also reach into the astral! Even if the adept does
not have the assensing ability (costing a hefty 2 magic points), the attack
could (conceivably) strike an astral being. What's the question? Well, suppose
you have a physad who cannot assense, belabored in some way by an astral form,
be it mage or spirit or whatever - could you have an assesnsing character "spot"
for him? I realize there would be some modifiers, but, once again, I'm just
trying to get some input.

-=} Another interesting possbility would be astral forms struck accidentally by
a physad in a free-for-all who cannot assense. For instance, maybe an ele-
mental hanging around a mage, maybe? {=-

Waiting for some comments...
