Physical Damage Overflow is defined by a character's Body score, correct?

Man and Machine however rates Willpower as equally important in healing so...

I have these visions of a huge troll lasting for ages, while someone who
spends their time mastering the forces of the universe winks out in barely
a moment...

So I thought, If you average the Body and Willpower scores, rounding
fractions up if you want people to survive and down if you want a deadly
game then your mages should survive much better, while the troll samurai
becomes easier to threaten... Now have I missed anything (like exactly this
rule in the cannon for example) and if not does anyone have any opinions?

Yes.

SR3 also; both Body and Willpower have given modifiers to healing for a
long time (since SRII at least).

Back in SRII, at some point I used the house rule that you took a box of
overflow damage every number of minutes equal to the result of an open
Body test, instead of every (Body) minutes (this got changed to turns in
SR3). You could do something similar, but roll with Willpower instead.
That way, the maximum amount of overflow you can take depends on your
physical fitness, but how long you actually hold out is a question of your
will to live.
