I used to think not, but then Cyberpirates included the .1e
"cyberpegleg", which is essentailly a short crutch anchored in bone.
Course, it causes SOME (positive) functional change, and has tocost
essence, or spurs wouldn't either- infact, non-retractable "spurs" could
be done today.
I'd still figure it would take a LARGE implant, or one with very
diffrent function than normal. Also, the "essence cost" of implants may
bean effect CAUSED by the awakening- since thereis no strongastral plane
yet, there is no connection to it (or "astral template") you must worry
about damaging. But if there were anybody with huge chunks of cyber at
the point this happens, they might croak. This is unlikely, I think,
given that all the most primative (ie, non-simsense using) stuff in the
BBB just ain't gonna cost 6 essence. In fact, simsense (and matrix)
tech did not apear until AFTER the awakening...
