Finally, the new Plastic Warriors net.sourcebook is out... either point
your browser at

http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/plastic.html

or ftp to

nspace.cts.com/pub/Role-Playing/Shadowrun/Plastic Warriors/

to get your hands on a Word for Windows copy of Paranoid Animals of North
America. And no, this isn't a critter-book, as so many seem to think from
the title :) It's a big beast, though, at 1.9 MB (yes, that is *after* I
zipped it...)

All hail Gurth, prophet of the Shadowrun community!!

All I need now is to buy about 1000 sheets of paper to print all the
sourcebooks :)

How about a non-Word version. Postscript, RTF, even an earlier word version
like 5.x would be helpful. I've been trying to convert the files over on a
friends machine and all I've gotten is a crashing machine and severe
headaches. If its possible I'd be very happy. (So would my friend. :) )

BLAIR

ps: Postscript would be ideal. I can fire it to the network printer and not
have to pay for the paper. ;)

I'd like to do this sort of thing, but I don't have the space for it. I
once tried making a PS version but it sort of blew up into my face for
some reason -- everything seemed to be totally messed up.

BTW, if it seems your PC crashes while loading one of the Plastic Warriors
books, DON'T WORRY, it's most likely the table of contents that's causing
it. The computer (my 100MHz 486 with 8MB included) stops for a few
minutes if there's a large TOC in a large document (and I think the PW
books qualify for both :) to sort the whole thing out or something I have
not yet seen it crash, but the whole system is occupied for a while.

I'll second both of those comments :) I never realized how hard it is to
find A4 sized paper in Lexington. My GM and I are going 1/2 and 1/2 on some
he dug up. I hope the ink reservoir on my printer holds up :) Terry

No it loads. I've get the same problem you had wqith converting it.
Converting it blows up the machine. Anything from not enough drive space (my
friend is working on getting another hard drive), to innsufficient memory. I
have a feeling I might have to get that stupid word 6. Oh well, that's what
uninstallers are for. :)

You could also acquire a word viewer for Win95 or Win3.1 if you don't want
to purchase the ($100 plus) Word program. I don't know if there is a mac
version.

Postscript, however, ensures more platform compatibility....but it's a
tradeoff

Ok, I've heard alot about postscript, and would like to print all the SR
stuff floating around in it. I still haven't figured out how to do it. Do
I need a special program to do it with? I know i need a postscript
compatible printer, and i don't think mine is (HP deskjet 500C) But i can
take it to school and print it out with the new super duper laser printers
(damn i love those things!) If a couple of you guys would give me a hand
with this, via private e-mail, it would be greatly appreciated!

Word Viewer, created by Microsoft, is available on their Web and FTP sites,
(http://www.microsoft.com, and ftp://ftp.microsoft.com respectively)

It's on them somewhere, just do a search on their page for "Word Viewer"

Look around a bit at www.microsoft.com and you should find it sooner or
later. It's totally free AFAIK, and can be copied and distributed without
problems. I think it's one of MicroSoft's tricks to get you to buy Word :)

A DeskJet 500C is not a PS printer, no. Those laser printers probably are
(though you'd better check first :).

To print a PS file to a PS printer, all you need to do is send it directly
to the printer, while if your printer is of a normal kind (non-PS), you
need a viewer to print it with. GhostScript (or something that sounds like
it) should be available from some places, but I don't know where.

Giot no clue what your running but I've never seen OS/2 crap out on
anything. Initial setup can be a bit wierd but after that its always been
smooth sailing. It's possible that your hardware dosen't like it. I know I
can't run it 'cause for a glitch in my proccesor, but I can't complain
'cause it's a loaner. :)

I'm proud to be an American, and scoff at fools who call us "idiots". They
are the worst of all.

Now, now, lets not start a stupid and pointless discussion on which country
is better. There are americans who think that europeans are idiots, and
there are plenty of europeans who think americans are idiots. Personnally,
I think people who try to argue that one is totally superior to the other
are idiots. To those americans who think that america is best, what about
monty python? (english) and a lot of our culture? and most importantly,
beer? And for the europeans, we wouldn't be having this discussion if a
bunch of american writers hadn't designed this game based on how screwed up
the entire world could get.

Sheesh, I never thought _I_ would be trying to cool people of on here,
usually the other way around.

Don't get me wrong, I think that your right Europe is a generally
more civilized place than america ($600 per person per year spent on
art in Europe versus $0.006 spent in america). It's just that your
reasoning is a little off.

I thought it was a problem with one or two of my drivers, but after
talking to IBM support I found out that there are hardware configurations
and brands they refuse to support with OS/2 (Mitsuhama boards & Fuji
Drives especially). As far as bios goes Big Blue claimed there are only
7 they will support, but would not specify which ones so I could replace
mine. They'd rather charge me for the call back after I/ve paid for a
new bios installation. Definitely not cool having to go to the local
fixer for new bios every week to play 20 questions with itty bitty minds.

Wars are a by-product of civilisation... Primitive hunter-gatherer tribes
hardly ever decided to duke it out for each other, they were too busy
surviving. More sophisticated tribes started things like raids and stuff,
and only the truly civilised nations make wars.

Civilisation != Pacifisim.

Oh, I don't think so. I think the reasons for the "mass exodus" was due to
the wars and then the aftermath.
Don't forget, america has been involved in much more pointless wars than
Europe more recently. 'Nam for example.
The first world war WAS pointless. I don't think, even now, people know WHY
it happened.
The Second was all Germanys fault. The rest of europe would have been fine
if not for Germany.

I'm running W95 and the standard WP on it (Wordpad) brings up Word docs easily and also
allows for global reformat to allow easy printing. I DLed the last Plastic Warriors and
had it reformatted for my printer in just a few minutes. I don't know if this will help

World War II was not Germanies fault. It was everybodies fault. If someone
at the time had had half a brain they would have stopped Hitler before he
had gotten anywhere. It should have stopped at Germany annexing parts of
Austria but every other country in the world turned their back and actted as
if it hadn't happened. Everyone was at fault.

Thank you for your help, but I HATE Win95.
BTW, Tal thanks from the address I found the Word Viewer. It's typical
annoying Microsoft trash but it's useful in this instance. Thanks again.

Hello European/World History List,

Oh, sorry, this is a Shadowrun List? :) Come on guys let's get back close to
Shrun.

BTW, what are some of the high/low points runners should find in Europe? I
have London SB and Germany SB but I they leave Big questions on the rest of
Europe. I have some runners that want to go down to Italy/the south coast -
anybody got anything on those areas?

Also, has anyone given some thought to what would happen if a dragon had
been sleeping under a European/Asian death camp? What does that kind of
negative background count do to the psyche of a sleeping dragon? <evil GM
grin> Can a dragon go Toxic?

Not to mention that the political climate that enabled Hitler to come to
power in the first place was the result of the restitution measures the
Allies enforced on Germany after World War I.

Why do you think that there wasn't such harsh economic punishment to
Germany and Japan after WWII?

Any chance of a text version? Or a postscript version please? Even RTF
would do.

Which mass exodus are we talking about anyway? I don't believe a major
part of Europe's population moved to a different continent after either
world war. Most of them didn't even have the money to do that sort of
thing.

> Don't forget, america has been involved in much more pointless wars than

it was fought, well, that's another story...

> The first world war WAS pointless. I don't think, even now, people know WHY
> it happened.

It happened because of nationalism. WW1 was actually a 19th-century war,
that got started because of the politics of nobles -- and not just the
German emperor, but *most* of Europe's aristocracy. The fact that many
peoples were discontent only added fuel to the fire. In Europe, the German
government was looking for an excuse to start a war, so they could become
the dominant force in Europe, and thereby most of the world. When the
Austro-Hungarian crown prince was assassinated in Sarajevo, they had their
excuse.

> The Second was all Germanys fault. The rest of europe would have been fine
> if not for Germany.

Thank you for playing, here's a dustbin.

The victors of WW1 are, at least, in part to blame for WW2 -- Germany went
all but bankrupt between the wars (ever seen those million Mark notes with
three extra zeros printed on them to make them worth *something*? Postage
stamps of three million Marks? There's loads more examples) due to the
money it had to pay for reconstruction of the rest of Europe. One of the
things that got and kept Hitler in power was because he did something to
keep the economy going and went against the rules imposed on Germany by
Britain, France, and the other countries that "won" WW1.

You can hardly ever blame just one side for a war, there's usually
something on both (or all) sides that have a cause in starting the war.

RTF or PS would be most likely, if I ever get round to doing other than
WfW versions, the reason being that I can make those without having to
fiddle with the layout at all. A text (let alone an html) version would
take me about as long to make as the original...

I've always thought that in the 40's and 50's mainly people from
Communist countries escaped into America, there weren't so many western
immigrants. I know for a fact that from Finland people moved to the
States mainly around the turn of the century.

How about the ftp address? I seem to recall there was one, but I can't
remember what it was.
I'm not sure if I'm going to print it out on the lab printer here. They
got a little pissed when I printed out the last netsourcebook, and that
one was smaller than this one. :)

The URL I posted above can get you to all PW books, but for those who
don't hav a web browser, three of them should be available by ftp to
nspace.cts.com (what used to be cerebus.acusd.edu) in the
pub/Role-Playing/Shadowrun/Plastic Warriors directory.
