Probably because a lot of us are at work, or at school, and
we don't have the book handy. Also, it adds to the
friendly conversational tone of the list.

And, how many times have you been gaming when one of the
players asks a question even though he's got the book right
in front of him? I've done it because if someone knows the
answer it'll save me a lot of time. And, it's part of
interacting socialy with the group.
