1) Knightfall
10 years earlier, Saader-Krupp developed a fertilizer that would
revolutionize land reclamation, and crop growth. It passed every test
the developers came up with, and was finally ready for it's first field
test.
A one acre plot of land was sprinkled with the fertilizer; and
exactly 30 seconds later, every crop, brush, shrub, tree, and blade of
grass was dead. It even killed all animal life that was in the area at
the time. {birds literally fell from the sky, stout trees were easily
uprooted, rotted thru the core]. The plot of land was estimated rendered
'unviable' for THREE centuries.
After analyzing their results, they discovered that they hadn't
allowed for an overlooked element present in today's polluted
atmosphere, which had casued such an adverse reaction.
After furious meetings, the project was shelved [along with a few
execs careers].
Years later, soon after the outbreak of Insect Spirits in Chicago,
an ambitious exec came up with an excellent use for the defunct product
still sitting in Saader-Krupp warehouses: pesticide.
Preliminary tests against the insect spirits were extremely
positive.Unfortunately, it did still have the side effect of killing any
unprotected human[i.e. in an enviro suit] who happened to be near when
it was sprayed, but that was seen as a small price to pay, when
compaired to the cheap, economical means now avaliable to hunter teams
around the world to exterminate insect spirits. They even suggested
spraying a bit over Chicago; a suggestion which was [fortunately for
Chicagoians] voted down.
Several hours prior to the game timeline, 21 DRUMS of the
Insecticide were stolen from a secure Saader-Krupp warehouse. Everything
points to a group of Shadowrunners, but a corp official might suspect an
inside job, also. A message is left at the sight, form an eco-terrorist
group calling itself Knightfall, saying they'll be in touch.
The PCs can either be a group of runners hired by an unknown party,
to retrieve the drums for them. Or, they could be members of a covert
corp special ops group, the Dragons [Kudos for the idea, and more
information about the Dragons is avaliable at the Shadowrun Military
Sight] called in to retrieve the pesticide and eliminate the terrorists,
before they can use for whatever their plans are [not that Saader-Krupp
is especially concerned if a couple hundred peopleare killed. They are
concerned if a couple hundred people are killed by a product THEY
manufacture! BAD for PR :-]
The PCs will encounter fanatical eco-terrorists, rabid but cunning
toxic shamans, the shadowrunners [or Saader-Krupp, depending which side
of the fence you're on], and maybe [if their shadowrunners] the
MYSTERIOUS johnson who hired them, for his own diabolical schemes
<hehehe>
