This is just a matter of crappy GM-ing. IIRC, Traveller had a perfectly
handy rule regarding coup d'grace shots against an unresisting target.
Even with the unskilled weapon penalty, your GM should have just let you
have the shot.

Any GM who lets the rules get in the way of common sense and otherwise fair
gaming should have his/her license suspended, if not revoked. I probably
would have walked out over that one, just on principle.

A good GM must be able to think outside the box, because that is where the
characters will primarily operate. This applies to SR, too. Otherwise it
might as well just be a card game.
