With power armour allowing one to move faster, take more damage, carry more,
fire more guns, and the main point - essence friendly - why on earth should
a street sam wast his essence on a cyberware when power armour will do?

If this type of armour is used in SR, I would give it greater carrying capacity,
+ strength, armor, and even the guns. But I would definitely reduce movement,
and the reaction of the PC - but not to the extent that I would if the PC was
a Rigger or a Cowboy, while they were in the suit.

Another method would be that instead of lowering reaction, leave it as the same
as the characters, but limit the amount of actions one may in a combat round -
say: one free and one simple action. Also make it a lot tougher to maneuver in,
taking longer to change directions or slow down (do the the mass of the armour).
Don't you just love inertia?

Why? Lots of reasons. Maintainance and upkeep costs are going to be a
bitch, significantly higher than an equally-priced "normal" vehicle.
Try getting one onto a commuter craft or airliner/suborbital flight. And
you can totally forget about stealth in 400 kilos of walking armor.

Sure, power armor is great in a stand-up fight, but /getting/ it there in
condition to be useful is /not/ going to happen on the street without a
fairly large organization backing it.

Because when you walk down the street in powered armor, they call out
the army.

Street sams aren't in wars; street sams are in covert operations. You
can't do that if you're being shot up by a couple of attack helicopters.

Exactly. I run campaigns where powered armour is not uncommon...if
you are a cop. You can get them if you are a rigger, but without
the (expensive) tech support it doesn't last long.

If you allow the players to possess powered armour, they are no
longer 'running in the shadows' - they have graduated to a higher
plane of existance (where everything works and the birds sing
a pretty song. :-)
