Cks mentioned two additional disads that the predator should have

1) Thermographic vision ONLY

I'll have to agree with this one, it is obvious. My only
dissention is that PII implies that our friend has a device
in his helmet that can select for certain types of light.
Ie when he picked out gary busey's people by their UV lamps.
But that would fall under one of pred's tech toys.

2) Vulnerability to cold.

It is implied in both movies, but I think you're overestimating
severity. In II pred did actively seek out a cold place to use
as a hidout, but Gary Busey and Co tried to freeze it in order to
capture it. I'll take a stab at this by saying that cold slows
it's metabolism (a cold place would be a great place to sleep)
and sufficient cold would either send it into extended
hibernation or just shut it down for good. I would say that
pred has a nuisance reaction to anything cooler than 75deg
farenheit, a mild reaction to anything below 45deg F, Moderate
reaction below 20deg F and a severe reaction to anything
*really* cold (about 0 F or maybe as low as -20 F).
These temperature figures are merely estimates, but should give
a good idea of my views on predators in SR.

After all the talk about Predator in Shadowrun, I just noticed that Predator
(the movie) is going to be on tv next Monday. Where? RTL5, if you live in
the Netherlands.

I just watched Robocop on tv, and I just noticed something: the Ares
Predator in the picture in the SRII rulebook looks remarkably much like the
pistol Robocop is toting... coincidence...?

More like a Beretta 93R... well, because that's what it is. :) See, they
took a real Beretta 93R, a nifty burst-fire machine pistol based on the 92
series, welded some chrome on it to make it look ``futuristic'' and match
the armor, and there you go. BTW, that's what the 93R sounds like firing.

On the other kind of Predator topic...

I finished re-reading the ``Aliens vs. Predator'' novels and have a few
more comments to make.

When I said that an unarmed yautja (their name for themselves) can take on
a Bug, I should have said that the /best/ of the yautja, unarmed, can do
so; they're good, they're not that good. A yautja with wrist claws and some
body armor can take on Bugs and win. A Hunting pack going after Bugs will
mostly likely be armed with wrist claws, spears, nets, and body armor.

They're faster than an unaugmented human, though the best unaugmented
humans can generally keep up. Once Blooded, they're mostly immune to a
Bug's acid blood.

Treat a Hunting pack of experienced, Blooded warriors as having a slightly
limited Battletac system, their coordination and group tactics are that
good. Young, unblooded yautja are wildly chaotic unless kept under a tight
leash by their Leader.

The psychology of such a creature is of utmost importance: glory and honor
are the be-all and end-all of a yautja's existance. When Hunting he will
limit his weapons to match those of his quarry, possibly even handicapping
himself in the spirit of a fair, honorable fight (though that particular
definition may be a bit skewed from the human ideal). They will not Hunt
things that cannot or will not fight back (except for food).
