Which game had the TV commercial that said "Pretty sneaky, sis!" ? I'm
thinking ConnectFour or something equally archaic...

Anyway.

It seems that Steve K. pulled his usual "trick" of giving some of his
Shadowland posters the names of certain list members.

Here's a list of the names *I* spotted:

Caric (I think I've seen that name a few times before)
Bull (yet again...)
Tinner (responding to Bull's comment no less)
Mongoose

and our very own Lady Jestyr!! Seems she's relocated from Oz to the Big Easy!

Anyway, I for one think it's pretty cool to see Steve acknowledge RN and
certain people in his own little way. Maybe I should come up with a new
nic so he can work me into Magic in the Shadows somehow...

Just a little fun FYI for the RN-lite! list...

Don't forget DVixen (on the same page as Bull and Tinner no less).
Pretty sure I saw Talon, Steve's main char, in there somewhere too. To
my knowledge Gurth doesn't appear (maybe only by his real name) ..
neither does Granite, who was one of the original three "quote" guys in
T:U.

Fastjack and -H- both show up .. interesting.

Hrmmm...no, that doesn't seem right.

BTW, Shadowrun toys. What do you see as the sort of things that a child
would play with in 205X?

Who can remember that "Bright Light" art game thing in which you plugged
plastic bits into a board to light them up and made a design that way...I

Ooops. Yeah, DVixen is there, as is Loki (the rat-bastard who has a SRTCG
card named for him...which I think I have actually. ;-)).

I don't recall Talon, but it would be a suprise if he didn't show up in
something written by Steve. And I didn't see any indication of Gurth by
any name.

I agree it's weird to think so, but it makes one feel worthy some how. :)

Connect Four. Positive.
I got that for my 9th B-Day, and played with my sister yelling that every
time she won.
(Which was rather often, since she was 17 at the time!)

COOL MONKEY HEAD!
Ya know, I didn't even catch this the first time I thumbed through the book!
(Gimme a break, I've work the last 14 days straight, 11.5 hours a day. Ick!)

Thank you very much for the include Steve!
Now Bull can't lord it over me ... which means I don't have to kill his
characters as often now! ;-)

Yeah, right. I think you'd know it if that were the case.

these things...

That's because, IIRC, he was one of the winners of FASA Mike's
"competition" to get your name in a book.

Wasn't there a mention of a gamenet or something or was that in somone's
fiction/gamelogs?

Virtual Realities had MatrixPal ... hmmm I wonder if there are toy drones
for kinds? (with cheap pissant Remote Control Decks ... but since the
tike probably doesn't have a VCR yet, he/she can only use the Captain's
Chair mode) ... Hey, how young in do you think people get their
datajacks?

There's also the Lowfyr poseable action figure ;)
`Raku Arcology and Azzie Teocalie Playsets ... (the arcology opens up,
the Teocalie is just a large plastic pyramid ...)
There are probably "Magical Activity Kits" that 1) increase Magical
awareness (ie knowledge) and 2) if the tike's gonna become Magically
active, it'll stimulate those area of his/her mind and possibly even try
to identify how his/her magical nature will manifest.

Tarot Cards, Wijjie (sp?) boards, magician's pointy caps, all
those sort of things. Heh...You also forgetting the Big D stuffed
doll (in stores for Christmas), and I'm sure considering that Ares

figures and accessories. :)

The board thingy you mention has some funky spelled name ... I think it's
Ouija ...
Hmmm.... don't forget the Death of Dunkelzahn Comic book (with 36 variant
covers including 4 different version of hologram prints of the "Mana
Storm")
What about a Smartlinked Spitwad shooter?

But they are real. They fall into an odd category since disbelief
comes with age. Free spirits, i don't know? Totems (Idols), chancy but
something that something that dedicated to giving might exist.

Could you imagine playing with an illusionist for a GM? If he wants you to
see that troll, you see that goddamn troll... besides, it would be set in
212X, just to keep the distance in year correct.

Unless I'm mistaken, it refers to South Park's Christmas "special"
Mr. Hanky the Christmas Pooh? I could be wrong however.
If you haven't seen it, don't. :)

Just trendier variations on old themes from the past. More emphasis on
visualization I'd imagine, given the massive impact of the Matrix.

Oh yeah they do, and oh yes I do. Had one, actually two, with over 100 of
those really off-center color-guide-dot picture-to-make.

Well, I doubt Mr. Hanky would ever come about, as much as some
Cow-heads/South Park fans would like it to happen.

And I believe the Easter Bunny is a relatively recent invention, but I'm
not really sure. And being relatively recent, there might not be enough
collected karma/energy/whatnot in the masses for him to exist in SR 205X yet.

But Santa Clause goes back long enough that it would be possible, in
theory, for a free spirit to either be formed spontaneously or to have
"become" Santa when it went free.

Now, the modern American version of Santa with the red velvet and white
ermine trimmed clothes with the belly like a bowl full of jelly is a
product of this century. Other cultures have their own version of Santa, a
few of which make him skinny.

But Santa has been around in Western Culture long enough I think, in all
seriousness, that in SR 205X, there could be some wacky free spirit running
around that believes it's Santa Claus. Enough other long-held cultural
beliefs have come true with the Awakening, why not?

And I'd bet that Santa would be a serious kick-ass spirit too.

Mega Oops! That "But they are real" comment was supposed to be a
joke! I forgot my smiley<tm> and to start a new line.
Then I was going to make a comment on practicality of their
"reality". That's what I get for posting on little sleep. Sorry about
being out of character there.

more so and they were guarded very closely. To protect themselves, they

it could be used against them.

The Easter Bunny was based, IIRC, on a Celtic(?) goddess who would hatch
hares from eggs to entertain children ... also I believe there were birds
that make nests similar to those made by hares (Hares make nests unlike
rabbits who burrow... well, rabbit holes :) and so the local folk thought
that the hares had laid the eggs (I believe the eggs were also colorful
and this occured around springtime) ... when Cristians swiped the Easter
holiday they kept the eggs and everything but considered the hare too
pagan and changed it into a bunny ... and that is how the Easter Bunny
came to be :)

Hmmm... perhaps Santa (and the Easter Bunny/Hare) would be a free spirit
with a variation of the wealth power? ... SEd6 * 1000 * Force nuyen worth
of toys (or candy/chocolate/whatever for the Easter Bunny/Hare) any other
Folk lore/legends/whatever you want to make into "real" entities?

Mr. Hanky is the Christmas Poop form Southpark ... and that was one very funny
show (though it could not beat the Visitors episode though) ...

That version of Santa (From the poem The Night Before Christmas) was also
clearly named as an ELF!
In my game there is a portly elf that favors red suits and hangs out in
seedy night clubs.
He has a "posse" of Atzlaner elves in green that carry hammers and saws that
act as his muscle/enforcers.
Just to keep things truly evil, and also keep the kiddie connection, I made
him a pedophile who also deals in slavery.
Sick, I know, but you should have seen the looks on my players faces! ;-)

In my game he was. Around force 10, but I'd have to check my notes
which are at the house. He's a result of one particulary boring
evening around christmas and my attempt to liven things up. :)
I can't remember if we ever finished that particular run, but I do

I can't see the bassics changing much. Building toys, dolls, stuffed
animals all present, though with different shapes and styles, to be
sure. Computer games, of course; video games still around? Doubt it.
Board games maybe, the classic games will still be there. An awakened
version of Candyland, anyone? (grin)
