Hmmm, would you care to expand? Our gaming group has recently decided
that we would allow priority 4 magic to be used for Paranormal type
animals (like shapeshifters, vampires, etc) and I would be most
interested in hearing what kind of troubles you run into. I,
personally, have thought about making a shapshifter, but havent as
of yet, and I can honestly say I am not sure what is stopping me.

Our group picked priority four to ensure that none of these beasts
could be something ungodly, like a troll shapeshifter shaman. We
want to limit the mixture of magic put into one character for the
sake of game balance. This is fine by me, but I have been
contemplating how society would look at them and react toward them.
Naturally I have heard many rumors, but I would still like to see
how someone else's campaign deals with them.

Thanks,

Ahm, I am not sure here, but I believe I said the same thing. If
I didnt that it was I meant. Our gaming group does NOT want
troll shapeshifters, or shaman vampires. We simply want to expand
on the shapeshifter and vampire theme. We will NEVER allow a
shapeshifter troll vampiric phys. adept, or any other mixture.

IF we do decide that shapeshifters are allowed, all they have to
rely on are their skills and attributes. Same goes for vamps.
We all agreed that this was plenty...

I thought that this was what I said to begin with, but judging
from the last two repsonses I may have left out a word.
I humbly apologize!

So, an interesting question for the paranormals on the list:
What are the legal aspects of being nonhuman (in the broad sense)?
We know it's possible to live an open life as a vampire in San Francisco
(someone's doing it, cf NAGTNA), but what about weres and the more
exotic? One of the encounters in SPRAWL SITES suggests that weres are
not considered 'human' and protected by laws in either form, although the
evidence is slim (the encounter is with an eagle were, which doesn't
exist in the normal rules -- love those wacky FASA people). PARANORMAL
ANIMALS suggests that a number of species are broadly considered 'human',
but never lists them (of course, in Quebec they're considering not calling
trolls human -- if I was a Sasquatch, I'd stay far away); has anyone's GM
done up a list?
