ShadowRun List <BARNHART@****>

There's two things that have always bothered me since the first time I
ever played ShadowRun...
1) According to the rules a person can fire an AVM at a person. Well,
this seems to contradict common sense. Even now, most (okay, some)
AVM launchers won't fire unless a vehicular target is locked...
I'm just griping because that's how my first character died...
This can easily be fixed by a GM just saying 'no AVM fire at people'
(or else what's the use of the APM)...
2) That same character had an assault cannon which seemed woefully
underpowered, but that's not the real problem. I don't remember
exactly where I read it in the rules, but it basically stated that
recoil penalties due to autofiring an assault cannon were doubled.
That's all well and good, but nowhere else in the entire book does
it ever mention the assault cannon firing more than one shot. So,
I guess what I want to know is, is this a mistake that was fixed
in the addendum (which I haven't gotten yet) and later printings
or can the assault cannon only fire one shot per round (making
it a vastly underpowered weapon)????

Thanks in advance...

P.S. Sorry if it sounds like I was rambling, I didn't exactly get much sleep
last night since I was playing the Twilight: 2000 computer game (pretty good
but with a few bugs in the programming)...

The reason you can fire anti vehicular weapons at people in Shadowrun
is because the damage systems are set up so that a SS with good
equipment can soak up almost any amount of anti-personell weapons fire
you care to throw at them. I got fed up when my party started dropping
grenades at their feet to blow mobs off them and when the troll took an
assault cannon and walked away from it.....

Actually, I've only played ShadowRun once since that first game since
I got thoroughly fed up with the combat system. The full situation was:
- I was playing a troll streat samurai (redesigned archetype by the group)
- the opposing shaman (wearing REALLY light armor) took an assault cannon
blast and shrugged it off
- I then got promptly blown away by an opposing SS using an AVM...

As far as alternatives go, I've never played Cyberpunk...
However, I do have my favorite (read realistic combat & better matrix
setup) one: Cyberspace used as a supplement for Space Master (adjusting
Space Master tech down of course)...
Characters tend to avoid combat a lot more unless the odds heavily favor
them...

Just rambling off on another gaming tangent :)
