Hoi Chummers,

I've unpacked all my GM notes from 1990 - 1995, tossed out all the
crappy adventures that I couldn't be bothered reworking or were
specific to the previous campaigns.

One thing that struck me while reading through the notes I made as a
GM and from my notes as a player, was that the published adventures
aren't used much by groups who have been playing RPGs in general for
a while.

Maybe it's just a hangover from the T$R days when it seemed there were
stuff all quality ADD scenarios, but I recall the general distaste for those
adventures that were published by actual game companies.

From personal experience I can say that I have only really played in two
top-notch adventures...AD&D original Ravenloft [I6] and the Harlequin
[7306] book.

There are two ideas I have for starting my new campaign...

1. Using the Published Adventures

I understand that some GMs I've corresponded with have/are running the
FASA adventures in chronological order...I'd be interested in hearing any
details/problem areas they found...apart from the hassles of updating the
1st Edition stuff [been there done that as I obtained the adventures].

2. Using the Shadowrun Game mechanics to play a pre - Awakening
version a la CP2013-2020.

I have a few players who are CP fans but CBF'd enough to GM. But I am
not prepared to GM using the CP system as I very much prefer the SR2
game mechanics and the mix with magic. So what I might end up doing is
starting a non-Awakened SR game set in 2013 to begin with, but gradually
incorporate the significant parts of the SR Time line.

Basically this idea is so both parties enjoy the game without too much culture
shock so to speak. I think it should be workable...I know that my old
Rolemaster group converted the first edition AD&D big modules to fit
our RM campaign as a group project, and that wasn't too bad. But introducing
the Awakening and everything else might be a tad on the over-enthusiastic
side
of things...

Anyway, if you have any opinions, ideas, let's hear them...

According to Pete *Iago* Palmer, at 23:40 on 25 Sep 98, the word on the street was...

My group's doing just that, and I've even worked out the chronological
order of the adventures and sourcebooks (see
http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/adventure dates.html and /sourcebook
dates.html), which does NOT correspond exactly to the order in which they
were published.

I'm not sure that would be all that much fun. Mainly it's not Shadowrun
anymore if you take away the magic, Matrix, and cyberware... If you really
want to do this I suggest taking a set of rules for a modern-day or very-
near-future game and adapting the setting slightly to be the Shadowrun
world in the 2010s. Incorporate rising megacorps, the Shiawase and
Seretech decisions, and _very_ slight references to magic -- like an
unknown species of animal being discovered, that kind of thing.
