About as memorable as cutting your finger on a piece of paper, and dying of the
following infection. Just because the dice told you so.

I will kill of my players, but not just because of a random dice roll. It might
be memorable, but not fun

Well, it might not be fun if they die, but it can be fun if they get their
butts handed to them. My whole group can still remember the time the teams
Troll, who worked as a bouncer prior to his running career, got the sh!t
beat out of him by a single unarmed human thug. The Troll was no lightweight
in hand-to-hand fighting, and given his experience and skill the last thing
anyone expected was for him to be pummelled half to death by some unnamed
goon.

Ever since, whenever the Troll gets too cocky, other team members pay him
out and remind him how he was "beaten by a human". It's rather funny.

Of course, it's not quite as funny as another players Troll, who did die,
but it was because he did something really dumb. He chose not to step out of
the firing line of some whoop ass badguys, saying "F8ck that - I'm a
Troll!". Now whenever his characters do something even remotely risky,
everyone else chimes up "F8ck that - I'm a Troll!". Hilarious!

Still happens to our group all the time. Although the quote is "Don't
... Go ... Home!!", a reference to my mage character going back to his
doss a few hours after tangling with a major mojo magic group and
mundane lackeys ... opening the front door blew my poor unarmored
character all over the opposite wall. And all this after my character
brushed off the "don't go home" warnings from other characters. What's
funnier is that now as a GM, I've just had the same thing to our Troll
Mage. "Don't ... Go ... Home!!". He had more Karma and a higher body, so
barely survived... I think as an extension of this, the next character
in line is going to get a single laser-guided mortar shell through his
appartment window ;-) probably won't kill her, but nothing like putting
real fear into them to get them thinking smarter.
