Hello.

Can you help me? What background for my next character (quadraplejic and
blind) can I do?

I think it must be a mage.

Thanks.

Sure thing, but first I would like to know how your character became a
blind quadrapled?
As the time at wich the character become a blind quadrapled would help to
determine the various possablititys available.

You could actually consider an otaku child, or a ghoul, or a standard decker
(consider the edges and flaws involved), or even a rigger. And no, it does
not mean that the pc must be a mage, as I already suggested otherwise.

Probably a 24 hour Matrix decker. A mage could astrally project but then you
have the problem of losing one essence point per hour of astral time. You'd
also need someone to feed you and take you to the toilet. I have know idea
why FASA put quadriplegic in the SR companion because it eliminates most of
the playability in Shadowun. A rigger might be able to get by if the GM
allows him to use one of those humanoid drones which look real, and need 8
slave ports to control.

ummm it can't be a mage considering that mages need line of sight to cast
spells and if you can't see then you can't cast... I would say that you
have to be either a decker or a rigger. as for background itself these
are the things that you must come up with your self if you don't create
it then it won't be your character. or at least that is the way I feel
about it.

My first bit of advice: talk to your GM! Make sure it is ok whith
him/her before you put a lot of work into this..

Personally if I were your GM I would make this quite expensive...Lots
of medical costs..

Or more mundanely a decker..

Hmmm. Perhaps a Rigger or a Decker. Though some one else would have to do
the building and or programming for him. He may feel that Rigger/Decking
gives him a new chance at life.

Think Serd from "The New Adventures of Jonny Quest"

I have been working on a quadraplejic Drone Rigger for a while, the only
thing really stopping me is waiting on the Rigger Black Book.

I'd go for the 'target practice' background. *click*-*click*

No, PLEASE NO. Make it a Decker or a Rigger. Everyone leaping for "mage" is
making even me ill.

Assensing the target allows you to cast spells at it. Since astral
perception isn't done with the eyes, a blind magician can cast spells
(there's one in a FASA-published adventure, BTW).

A decker would be the way to go, IMHO. You don't have to go anywhere to
get things done, so being unable to move isn't a problem (unless a Johnson
wants to hire you for decking into a system that's not connected to the
Matrix, but you can always turn those down).

Use a hot deck (full ASIST interface, without keyboard input), plus you
have all the time in the world to write your own programs and keep them
up-to-date as well. Building your own deck may be a bit harder, though,
so you'd have to settle for either someone else building it to your
specs, or buying one off the shelf (which amounts to much the same
thing).

As for a rigger, maybe a good idea for that is to read Snow Crash and pay
particular attention to the chapters with Mr. Ng in them, although in SR
terms he's more of a rigger/decker combination.
