For those that don't know:

a 6.6 magnitude hit Los Angeles this morning, setting fire to much of the
city and collapsing many buildings.

For any list members who are in LA or know people in LA, all our best wishes.

There were several aftershocks also. One was above a 5 on the Richter
scale and atleast 5 were above a 4. The tremors were felt as far north
as Portland and as far east as Nevada.

L.A. is really not a pleasant place. '92 Riots, '93 fires, and the
'Quake of '94.

My sympathies go out to those of you who are dealing with the effects of
the 'quake be it rebuilding your house, waiting for teh call of a loved
one who lives in LA, San Diego, or any part of S Cal, or grieving the
loss of a loved one.

I must be getting old, but I'm starting to notice alot of these disasters:

Fires around Sydney, here in Australia, the flooding in Europe, now the
quake, plus other things I've probably missed.

Are we having more natural disasters or what?

I really don't think so. I think waht it is is that the media can bring
us pictures so much better than they could 5 years ago. That, couples
wiutht eh fact that the media is so much bigger makes it that much more
obvious.

Nope, just the joys of television satellites.
Not too long ago, important international news stories were
carried by the fastest planes the networks could find.
