I stumbled across a website that gave some information on how Quebec was
supposed to be in shadowrun -and let's say it wasn't very flattering about
us, quebeccers- and I want to know if anybody can give me some confirmation
on this, and where can I find the book that says so (my guess would be
Neo-Anarchist's Guide to North America).
Simply put, Quebec is a place where highway is an independant country
without any highways, 'cause the government doesn't have any money left to
pay for their upkeep. So most people use a Maglev train that goes from
Quebec city to Montreal to UCAS. Quebec's 20-30 late about technology, and
its dumb citizens (who, by the way, will shoot you with a sawed-off shotgun
"just because you speak english") are ruled by bikers syndicate. Yay.

Sorry, just found some typo mistakes I made. ;-)
I meant that the highways would actually be little more than chunks of
asphalt toppled one on another (becuase of the, oh so harsh winters of
2060), and that Quebec would be 20-30 years late about technology.

I stumbled across the same site and I figured it's the
author's view of Quebec and not official ruling. But I
hope something will come out about quebec in futur
publication.

En passant, de quelle région viens-tu?

I don't have NAGNA infront of me right now but I think there is something
about Quebec there, since I have never been to Quebec I can't tell if it
has changed that much attitude wise or whatever but it appears to be quite
standard in most rpgs that french speakin places gets a bad rep. Can't
think of many games at all where France is a nice place it is mostly a
source of evil, nuclear waste lands, toxic spills and so on ... But from
what I have gathered Quebec is pretty much run by one corp and the others
are just there for show.

Well, the way I understand it, it was more a "less horrible, we are less
stupid than FASA thinks" version, if you read the introduction text. Like a
"if they don't want to give us a decent country to play, we'll make a cooler
one".

I dont really like the fway Quebecers are portraid in Shadowrun. But let
see what information the people of FASA had to work with. Well not much.
They used what they heard and lets face it, we Quebecer dont have a really
good rep with the reste of Canada. So they went with what they had. And
beside, I prefer the futur of Quebec than the futur of Denver or the US.
Lets face it nobody have a good futur in Shadowrun.

Je suis moi aussi de Montréal :o)

It was still "horrible and stupid", as far as I'm concerned. I mean,
catholicism becoming as important as it was before the Revolution
tranquille, a language police, outdated technology...

Actually, JF, if what you said is an accurate
representation, FASA's version of Quebec is much less
patronising than the author indicated. The best way to
describe the Quebec of SR times is "rabidly insular".
Quebec has taken separatism to extremes, with the
exception of a few corporate enclaves. Really, you
need to find the NAGtNA, or get someone who's got it
to tell you what it says. My memory is MUCH too rusty
to be trusted on this one (for details, anyway). I
read it a while ago and I didn't pay that close
attention - Quebec is unlikely to ever figure into a
game of mine. Not the way FASA wrote it, anyway.

Hey, would any of you be interested in writing a Quebec netbook? I mean,
FASA's version of quebec sucks, and those two sites I've found offerring
some info on the topic aren't much better -and haven't been updated in ages.

Well, I like the idea of bikers instead of Mafia and Yakuza, and the
blown-up highways, but I feel pretty upset about the "we're going to shoot
you 'cuz you're speaking english" and 20-30 years late for technology part.
Yeah, a netbook's a nice idea.

Well, there is the bugger you English speakin scum, we aint going to talk to
you type of attitude, so they may not learn/buy the modern thingies. Which
seems to be the way FASA did Quebec.

They also may have isolated themselves and gone real insular, which could
lead to falling behind the SOTA, but could also lead to a few good
smuggling runs :o)
