Subject: Question #2: Effect of Damage Modifiers on Initative
Date: Sun, 25 Sep 2005 12:27:35 -0400
I've been doing some simple one-shot sessions with my friends to orient
myself to the new system and have come up with two questions. This is
the second of those two:

The rulebook states on page 132 in the /Initative and Damage /section,
"When making the Initiative Test, wound modifiers from damage aff ect
the Initiative Score."

Clarification: I read this section thusly: When healthy, Harry has an
initative of 7. In this case, he would role 7 dice and add the total
hits to his initative value of 7, resulting in a combat initative of
7+(total hits out of 7). If he has ttaken 8 physical would blocks he
would be suffering from a -2 damage modifier.

Q) According to the rule, his effective initative should be 5. Taking
the damage modifier into account, does he now roll 5 dice and add it to
his effective initative of 5 (i.e. 5+total hits out of 5)?

Thanks

Tim

There are two Initiative values you need to be aware of. Your
Initiative Attribute, and your Initiative Score. You make a success
test using your init attribute and add the hits to your initiative
attribute to determine your initiative score.

Now, to use your example, the guy has a -2 penalty. This means that
he rolls his initiative attribute minus the 2 dice for his wound (ie 5
dice), however his attribute is still actually 7. The dice penalty
lowers the dice he rolls, not the attribute itself. So, any hits he
gets on those 5 dice are added to his initative attribute of 7 to get
his final initiative score.
