Not really. If you roll normally and beat your target by 1 success, he
misses, so you don't have to worry about getting 8 successes, AND you hit
your opponent.

You may have a lower target number most of the time, I agree. My point was
simply to say that you don't have to use full defence to totally dodge an
incoming attack.
