Ok everyone,

I'm playing in a group now where the GM says that Magic Pool can only be used during
Combat.
I was always under the impression that you could use Magic Pool anytime.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

By magic pool I assume you mean spell pool.

It's always been my policy that you can use spell pool dice anytime, which of course means
that they can be used for casting as many spells outside of combat as you want, though
naturally you are still limited in dividing pool dice between the actual casting and
resisting drain. It just doesn't make any sense any other way. "Combat" is an
arbitrary thing and the way magic works should not change based on whether you are
"in it" or not. Of course, you can be in combat without even knowing it. For
instance suppose you failed to detect some goons that were hiding with delayed actions
waiting to attack you and you cast a spell. If the goons decide to attack you immediately
after you cast you spell, then it would be reasonable to claim that your spell pool has
been used up for the first combat turn. However to say that if you knew they were there
you could use your spell pool but if you didn't know they were there you couldn't--which
is essentially what your GM is claiming--is completely absurd.

Thanks,
I'll continue to argue this point with him then.

That is correct. But talk to your GM, maybe he has a reason for his
decision.
But the main rules state, that the magic pool can eb used to support any
magical activity.

And you don't need a combat situation to use your combat pool, either. For
a trick shot in a circus or so it can be used, too.

And on a side note: please do not use webpages as e-mail. HTML-Mails do
more harm than good.
