Subject: Question about Skillwires
Date: Sat, 10 Jun 2000 11:15:08 +0200
Okay I was just reading through the SR3 book and on p. 301 under skillwires
it says:

"When purchased, choose a maximum total MP and maximum skillsoft rating for
the system: these determine the total rating and total size of activesofts a
character can use at any one time."

Based on this I have a few questions, logically I will start with question
number one:

If for instance someone would have a heavy skillwire system of max. rating 8
and max MP 300. Does this mean that, in the event of a jukebox (s)he could
have 2 rating 4 skills (or 4 rating 2 skills) running around in his system,
as long as total MP is not exceeded?

Question number two:
If you have active skillsofts downloaded into headware memory can you be
able to load up several skillsofts into your skillwires without the aid of a
jukebox. For example, using the above setup, could you download 2 rating 4
skills (or 4 rating 2 skills) from your headware memory into the skillwires?

Question number three:
Is it only me, or do any of you find that skillwires are a bit overpriced?

Thanks,

DV8

Yes. In fact, they can come form any (combination of) valid sources-
you can put the chips in chipjacks or datajacks and run them form there, for
example.

Like any "powerful" cyber, they are pricey, but are they overpriced?
Probably not. In Sr2, they were almost always (much) more expensive,
especially the higher rating ones.
Maybe the higher rating ones seem so if you just want them mostly to run
gobs of low rating softs- in which case you should maybe get a couple low
rating systems, or look at the "pluscode" skillsoft option in the Cannon
Companion. Indeed, with the CED (form M&M) and various skillsoft programing
options from CC, skillwires probably border on underpriced, given the level
of ability you can get.
Note that (barring skillsoft programming options), there's no reason to
ever buy a rating 8 skillwire with more than 192 MP. If you buy more MP
than you can ever use, they will certainly seem overpriced! In fact, ~150
MP is a more sensible MP capacity for a rating 8 skillwire, as it lets you
run a rating 8 specialized skillsoft, or a rating 7 general skill.

Whatever happened to good ole' Karma man!?!?!
The way these cyber men are now, they aren't the least bit authentic. I
guess it takes a magical adept to realize that.
