Subject: Questions about Vampires...

In an online campaign I'm in, my character and another, plus an NPC are
about to go up against a Vampire, who has captured yet another PC. I'm
currently trying to arm myself (a well-cybered Bodyguard type) as best I can
against it. The PC I'm currently with is a fairly powerful initiate-grade
hermetic, and if luck serves, I'll be hooking up with an initiate rat shaman
as well before the confrontation. The Vamp is definitely a spellcaster, so
the mages will be real helpful there, but I'm trying to figure out what I
can set myself up with to be most effective.

So far, I've gotten myself a crossbow and some wooden arrows, I'm working on
getting some wooden flechette ammo for a Slivergun or some such, and I'm
gathering a few handfuls of sawdust. I figure that the crossbow and the
flechettes might allow me to do some damage, and with luk keep him from
going gaseous. Anyone know if the sawdust will be useful if he goes
gaseous? From what I've read, introducing a material that they're allergic
to (wood) forces them to materialize again, so I figure that maybe throwing
a handful of sawdust into the cloud might force the transition back to
corporeal form. Thoughts? Comments?

Anyone have any other useful tactics against vamps?

Damn shame that garlic isn't listed as a weakness...a nice DMSO/Garlic sauce
load from a Supersquirt would be a cool idea...ah well.

Hey.... when in mistform, try using a can of hairspray and a lighter. Hell, use that on
them
when they are in normal form; also, EX explosive rounds would be good for ammo

Wooden flechettes? Somehow I doubt they would be anywhere near as
effective as normal flech rounds.

Huh. Perhaps. Biggest thing is that he won't become a nice white cloud
for you to target with the sawdust, at least in my opinion. Just because
he takes mist form doesn't mean he's still visible. I'd say that he'd be
invisible to your mundane eyes.

Okay, so maybe that's not what you had in mind. Okay, in that case, use
teamwork, don't do anything stupid (because a smart vampire can really make
your mistakes pay, but that's *any* smart opponent) and beat the living
crap out of the Infected One with everything you've got, from guns, spells,
elementals, spirits, wood, silver, the whole nine yards. Don't give it a
chance, obliterate the bastard when the opportunity presents itself.

Maybe a little simplistic, but with an extremely dangerous opponent, the
best bet is when you get the chance, go full-bore and make sure they won't
ever get a second go at you.

There's an article in the Fiction section of my website titled Vampires 101
- not really much, but it might help you out in some way.
