Hey everyone...:) Is it my imagination, or has this list gotten real quiet
lately?

Granted, this probably has a lot to do with Me, Pete, Sascha, and most of
the other noisies being busy elsewhere, but... We went from getting 150+
posts a day to less than 50. Hmmm, guess we need another major
controversial and idiotic topic to argue about... <evil grin>

Suggestions?

Oh no, please give us some advance warning as to when the list will pick
up (Yeah I know, "Yeah right" you must be thinking) to allow me time to
get an e-mail prog with filters. Any suggestions?

How about "Interesting ways to kill overly powerful Ork Deckers?" -
Today on Oprah! :-)

Seriously though I do have one idea I want to run by everyone, but
first, this disclaimer:

<Before I get flamed, NO! I am not condoning the use of drugs!!!! This
is a FANTASY game, and Harmacy is intended to be a tragic character. He
was born as a "Crack" baby and still struggles with addiction. I want to
see if there can be any sort of redemption for a messed up PC like this,
or if he will swiftly slide down the path to destruction. It's an
IMAGINARY experiment, and certainly NOT meant to convey a light-hearted
attitude toward drug use, OK?>

I am about to embark on an experiment.

I am going to run a truly tragic, pathetic, and for all intents and
purposes - EVIL character in a Shadowrun game.

His name is Harmacy (rhymes with Pharmacy - for obvious reasons)
He is what I am tentatively calling a "Speed" Samuari, or a chemical
Samurai.
Rather than use bioware or cyberware to gain an edge, he uses drugs and
chemicals.

Harmacy will make extensive use of the Lone Star combat drug Jazz, as
well as the booster drug Kamikaze.
His main weapon is an Ares SuperSquirt.

He will be uncouth, foul and intolerant, in general he will come across
as a total, unrepentant scumbag, and I fully imagine he will die within
a few months of game time.

However, before everyone asks why I would want to play such a loser,
there is a method to my madness.

This character offers our group a unique opportunity for role playing.
How will the other players react to this fool?
Will they simply ignore his VERY obvious problems, and let him slide
into oblivion?
Or will they rally together, and try to save this junkie before he
totally burns himself out?

It may be a dark road ahead, but if my players behave the way I believe
they will, I think we can really play an excellent redemption plotline
for Harmacy.

So what do you all think?
Am I wasting my time with this?
Is this too dark for Shadowrun?
Any sugestions for other things to introduce to make the character more
beleiveable, and personal?

As much wood as a woodchuck would chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood...

if that makes any sense at all... which is very doubtful....

Hey, this "chemical samurai" you're discussing sounds very much like the
juicers in Rifts. Do you play that game or is this just a random coincidence?

I hadnt actually thought of that but you are right.. I play rifts too...
brilliant game.. and the best part is like GURPs you can basically play
rifts within any of the other RPGs.... hmmm maybe if any of the drugs
from the juicer in rifts could be moved into the Shadowrun environment?
(Anyone?) I dont GM in that either... well to tell the truth the only
thing I have GM/DMed in is ADnD.... so *hides*...but its a cool game also...

What are you in that? Just out of interest... I am a
Great Horned Dragon named Wynn in Rifts.... and basically for shadowrun
a Troll Sammie... hmmm named Ugh for his intelligence skill when I made
him...

I havent actually given any of my characters the name Crucible.. cause I
just havent... but if the troll survives a few more missions there is a
very good possibility....

Anyone play any games apart from Shadowrun? Moved rules and items etc
between them? Come across any mage that has magically transported you
into ADnD for a slaughter match? (hey just trying to stop the
quietness... even if I do get flamed to all hell ;) )

Yeah, I play and Gm rifts....I love the japan setting, and I Gm that...not
surprisingly, I find myself making it into a very-Shadowrun-esque
environment....I like the cyber-samurai best of all the OCC's there are. They
are just too cool for words.
I haven't tried many rules conversions between rifts and shadowrun, mostly
because they are too different game systems to begin with. However, I did toy
with the idea of focuses( or foci, if we're gonna be grammatically correct)
for Rifts. However, i'm just too busy (or lazy : )) to actually do it.

I'd like to re-ask what somebody mentioned the other day about there being
any e-mail games going on. I'm definitely interested in that. Or maybe live
games in an IRC.....

None of the drugs are discussed separately...

Those of us lucky enough to be attached probably had to take a time out in
real life to celebrate St. Valentine's Day. It's also a federal holiday
weekend (President's Day) in the US, so those that post from their work
accounts are probably elsewhere.

As a matter of fact, YES, Steadfast. Today was President;s day, observed. Of
course, I had to work.. SIGH. What is worse is once upon a time there was a
regular convention in LA on this weekend, but not anymore, apparently.

Yah! As if. The postal service and government employees are

Errr . . . I think that it is mostly just quiet. After all, I'm a
goverment employee and was stuck at work. My husband works for the
University System and had to work (classes weren't cancelled). As far as I
know public school children were the only people who got yesterday off.

As for Valentine's day. Well, in addition to those who are unattached. I'm
sure that we weren't the only attached people who had the holiday come and
go without doing anything. (Feburary 14, love, February 14)
