I had a really funky dream about some futuristic racing after reading
Neuromancer for about 2 hours..
The cars were almost like a drag racer, but lacked the stabilizing fin
thing. (Point, I know jack about cars work. I don't even have my learners
license. To be honest, I dislike cars very much.)
So the basic car, as I was saying, was sort of pointy, and was completely
enclosed, so it was basically a long pyramid shaped car, obviously built
for extreme speed. The track was like a nascar track, but the slope was
more severe. And the announcers, loud and annoying. Unfortunately, I only
remember a teeny snippet :(
And Skye laughed at me over this dream..so now you all can :)

<me> I had a dream about some cyberpunk car racing..
<me> Really long skinny cars, like drag racers, except no big fins. On a
sort of Nascar like track, but with higher slopes
[19:22] <Skye-> hehe..
[19:22] <Skye-> weirdo!
<me> *shrug* It was funky.

[snip another one of Fro's weird dreams :)]

This makes me think of something I've been meaning to bring up on the
list: has anyone seen Carmaggeddon? Really cool race game where you get
more time to finish the course by crushing opponents and pedestrians
(splat!) It might make a nice thing to put into an SR adventure, as a
totally illegal race of course, and the participants would have to remain
out of reach of the law for quite some time to come... Any ideas for
adapting it to SR?

Yeps... i`ve played that and even wrote few words about that to gaming
magazine where i`m working... But let`s talk about SR adaptation. There is
no problem with points... u know max is i.e. for women with child etc. But
how to do that to remain out of reach of the law. It can be sort of campaign
to find place where Police is not working or is easy to remove. After
removing that problem players can race and then they need to get out. Second
idea is organizing that by fixer. Catch some ppl, give them some drugs so
they`ll not hide and pay some money to police and go on... :)

AmeriMovie about a Trans Continental race from NY to LA. Try also the
wonderful Tank Girl magazines first few issues I think the series was called
HellRace or something. See also the second MadMax movie "Road Warrior" which
is great reference material for CyberPunk nomads and in my SR campaign the
tribal lands surrounding Seattle. Lost of real go-gangs and the eternal
search for fuel and food.

The idea of Troll and Ork gangers in big pickup trucks with heavy weapons is
too much fun.

Lets think on that shall we

Hmmm- but why should anyone organize a race like that apart from
personal fun? Someone has to make money with it... and there sure as
drek won't be that many paying spectators (paying money, not
blood...)

Sure... but drivers will pay for that... you know - like a man hunting
organized for rich people. Spectators can watch it by Matrix for 1.95 charge
for a minute :)
