One of the posts reminded me of something I read in Cannon Companion.....

There is a type of BTL that is a bit like a reality filter on a cyberdeck,
in that the character can interact with the "real" world.

Now some are going to be a bit like "rose coloured glasses" so you don't see
how drekky the world actually is, but I wonder about emotive track loops
like "Master Corporator".

Anyway, the question is - Can the RAS be disabled by the SIM chip, or does
it have to be especially overridden.

For instance, can you harm somebody by fooling them into jump out the window
while under the influence?

You might put them in a SIM of a burning building, with the fire department
holding one of those trampoline things, then - splat.

commercial transactions.

Oh...my. I shall certainly be saving this little gem in my personal vault
of things to throw at my players when I'm feeling especially evil. Well
done, sir.

To answer the actual question: it probably wouldn't work on a dreamdeck
chip, since the dreamdecks themselves have RAS override devices installed
which would keep you from walking out that window. (CC, pg. 68) However,
CC pg. 65 says that "disabling the RAS override feature on a dreamdeck *or
a direct input chip* allows the user to move and receive input from his
own senses while chipping." This presumably means that, as long as the
user you want to ice is using direct-input chips, you could cook the RAS
disabler directly into the chip.

Now, even if you're dealing with a dreamdecker, all is presumably not
lost- gank the simdeck for a while while they're sleeping, and you're
good. It should only take half an hour or so assuming your electronics
guy is at all decent. Sounds like a shadowrun...

You should check out DreamChipper (SR1, 1989 adventure, 7303). At least they
produced some chips that made people seriously belive they were somebody
else, so why not somewhere else.
