Vagabound had hotmail do something screwy a few days ago, but it appears to
have cleared up. Someone's mom hit the send key one to many times before
that. And someone else sent a private message twice to the list. Is that
what you're seeing? Or is it something else?

BTW Granite, do me a favor and reply to me privately so we don't have to
clutter the list with this.

If anyone else is seeing double, let me know.

Actually it seems to have been a local phenomenon..and it seems to
have passed..I noticed it in some private email as well..So it had to
be local.. Thanks to those who answered though..even you DH.. :)

I am not disreguarding your request out of hand..Replying to the list
for my particular problem stops more OT clutter.. :)

Yes I have. I've been wondering about them for a while. Here's another
question. Why is that sometimes when retreiving email from the list the
reply to a previous question come before the mail asking the question?

That properly falls into the Millenium bug arena..and of course
improperly set mailer time for the most part...

Now entirely true.
What happens is, the internet is a packet based network.
What a router does is find a router from the sending host to the receiving
host by the most efficient route.

This has the added complication however, that messages send are often
divided up into many different packets, and sent individually. This leads to
packets from the same message going down many different routes.

The receiving host then reassembles the packets into the original message,
but it can't do that until ALL packets have been received, so a delay
somewhere on the net can delay a message for a while at one destination,
while another gets it almost instantaneously, which then leads to the "I
received the reply before the original, or the rarer "I didn't receive the
original at all".

<snipped Spike's -VERY- accurate reply on 'Packet Delivery' >

Thank you, I knew that Granite's original reply wasn't correct, but I couldn't
remember the system in SR.

On a related POV to this, in the Matrix, is information "direct feed/non-
packeted" or could you "packet" everything and go from there. Would be an
interesting way to lose a Trace ICe.

I originally meant this as a bit of a joke.. As this sort of thin
falls into the IDTS catagory of things.. It Does That Sometimes..
Never mind I guess you had to be there.,..
