How about a system that parallels the initiate system. Thus, the two
requesites for getting back essence are time and karma. Use the initiate
system but substitute essence for magic points. Obviously, no trial is
involved but a karma reduction is available for a) getting rid of the
cyberware, b) time, say a week per karma discount, c) good roleplaying. In
the last case, a char. who roleplays the dehumanizing effects of chrome well
ought to get a bonus. When the karma is spent, the character "gets back" a
point of essence. Note, this can result in essence totals higher than six.

IMHO in this way there is provision for sam "growth" while still preserving
game balance.

I still think tac. comps. cost way too much essence.

: Hmmm. This is kinda a touchy subject. While it might be 'logically'
:possible in game to justify something like this, you have to keep in mind
:how much this could skew game balance. The ability to regenerate a
being's
:Essence could easily be perverted down the line, to make really wacked
out
:characters.

If people already have acsess to Cybermancy, letting them use it to
bring essence back up to its normal / healthy level (6-present cyberware
costs) isn't really imbalancing. The potential side effects, though- are
all the bad parts of cybermancy because the subject is mostly dead, or
inherent to cybermancy? Anyhow, its one of the more concievable methods
I've heard of. If you made the cost for essence restoration the same for
surgery for implants with that essence cost (x200 for being in a delta
clinic), it would be DAMN expensive. I'd think most peole would just try
to cram as much stuff into thier "empty slot" as they could, and screw
essence restoration. There are those Tir clinics, though...

: Chalk it up to the magical ability to pull something like this off
:hasn't been reached yet, except by beings who've been around for a LOOONG
:time., IMO.

Actually, its the technical side that has me baffled- technology is
crucial to the functions of Cybermancy, but for essence restoration, you
would want as little technological intrusion as possible.

True, for essence restoration, the only essence that would be restored is from
what cyberware is removed from the person only, and to get back to a full
level of essence (6) means that -ALL- of the pc's cyber would have to be
removed.

And for simplicities sake, it could be considered the same as a ritual of
cybermancy, and the ritual material requirements being things from the
character's past, things that remind his 'spirit' of what it meant to be what
it was then. Then again, this is also simplifying things also pretty much
too.
