okay reading a post from Pete inspired a few more thought
into this matter

how about just 5 coins one for each type of magic
basically tie the elemental assists of magic to the spells

coin of ares (or prometheus or haephaestus) for combat
coin of athena (or hermes) for detection
coin of neptune for illusion ( water elementals aid
illusion ) ( or hera woman are renowned for their guile )
coin of ceres for manipulation ( earth elementals aid
manipulation ) (or yet again hera as woman are manipu
.....oops keep your mouth shut)
coin for healing ( hmmm aphrodite for sexual healing ,
sorry ladies it had to come out) or vesta ( a more
traditional version of healing )

Only Ares is really apropriate, since he's the only one tied to
War. You have to forget the elemental associations when assigning
deities here :).

Actually Hermes would be a perfect choice for the illusion coin,
begin the patron of thieves and all. Athena is a good choice for
detection.

Hephaistos might be better for manipulation, or perhaps Zeus,
since this is the largest and most "powerful" spell category.

Asclepius too. He's the god of medicine, though somewhat of a
minor god...

I'd suggest haephaestus for manipulation spells as he
was the creative god and was the most involved with
fire and the other elements.Although control
manipulation are certainly into Aphrodites field.
