Basically, I am finding this whole discussion to be rather irrelevant.
There is a lost of conflicting information about Mig and F series
planes. But it doens't really matter, ESPECIALLY IN THE REAL WORLD!!
Have we all forgotten that the "Evil Empire" has fallen? The chances
that our best fighter planes and pilots will go up against Russia's best
fighter planes and pilots is slim and none, and Slim just left town. In
this post-cold war era, it simply will not happen.

Erik, a.k.a. the Whistler

PS: Yes, my thinking does include minor powers such as Syria, Iraq, Iran,
and the members of the Commonwealth of Former Soviet States.

It is required by a little known law that at least once every six months,
we must have a 4-day flame-war about aircrafts. It's about four months
for ammunition.

The post I originally put up, (which I think was a reply to a few
others), was about the stupid way some governments work military hardware
distributions. Wonder how the rigger of the group gets a fully working
Panzer? Maybee he bought it from a foreign gov't or corp and they
"forgot" to take the weapons off. A GM of mine who played in a different
campaign always wondered how gangs got assault rifles. In his campaign, I
had a buddy in the local army who sold stuff to me. I then sold it at
(at a significant profit) to another character, who in turn gave it to a
gang to protect his drug lab. This, and the story about the Mig-17 are
meant to show how totally absurd situations can and do arise in real life
as well as gaming. And they can definately be used against those pesky
characters who are getting just a little to well known.

The breakup of the Soviet Union has left a political vacuum in Eastern
Europe and Western Asia, and as we all know, nature abhors a vacuum. Maybe
it won't happen today, but the political situation in that part of the
world is changing rapidly, and almost anything could happen in the next 10
years.

But how often is it for guns?

Besides, wasn't the last one just 3 months ago?

I've suffered through more than my share of these airplane wars,
not to mention the ammuniton or the various magic threads that inevitably
degenerate into flaming about the nature of magic and how Paul Hume is a
mage. But this one seems different...I may be crazy, but I think there
might actually be some signal in with all that noise -- and it is my
sincere hope that some of this signal can be turned into some good
write-ups for NERPS: Shadowlore II.

That might make a good NERPS submission, with a little editing.

Fade In.

J.D. Falk is seen before a solitary computer terminal in a darkened room,
alternating between madly typing and raving about submissions, NERPS, and
names and telephone numbers of other people who used the stuff.

A cloaked figure enters the room behind Falk and shakes his head sadly.
"Dear me ... another one."

Looking directly at the camera, he admonishes, "Stand back ... and kids,
don't try this at home; I am a professional."

Reaching about, he withdraws a rather perplexed looking carp.

He then holds the bewildered fish aloft and entreats the Heavens,

"Oh Lord, bless this, Thy carp, that with it Thou mayest THWAP
Thy enemies into tiny bits . . . in Thy mercy."

In light of the excessive use of one-syllable words such as
"stuff" and "kids", can we truly accept this as an authentic
post from Doom? I fear we must face the unpleasant possibility
that our dear Colonel has fallen upon some hardship with his
vocabulary, or, worse, the security and privacy of his account.
