Subject: REQUEST - Ammo Tracker Program

Personally, I've always been a big fan of the Hollywood -
"Never-empty-sixgun" style of combat.

However lately my players have been beggin for more "realism" and wanted to
add ammunition counts to the game.
My dilemma is that I lack organization.

However, it seems to me that It shouldn't be too hard for you programmer
types to whip up a utility that allows you to enter the ammo count for
several guns, click in the number of shots fired, and have the computer do
the math, and make a lovely "PING!" sound when someone needs to reload,
right? :-)

I kind of envision something that has large windows style (read - idiot
proof) buttons that would allow you to automatically enter three round
bursts, or full auto, and would prompt for the number of shots fired, then
subtract the ammo automatically - my calculator just doesn't cut it for
large gun battles involving more than two people! :-)

Gee ... while I'm begging, it would be great if this little gadget had
switched that would allow you to set custom accessories like smartlink, and
recoil compensation for say ... a dozen guns in the fight, and could
automatically tally target number modifiers too! :-) <drool!>

Anybody out there up to the challenge? :-)

For the PCs or the NPCs?

> My dilemma is that I lack organization.

I've been playing with ammo counts since I first played SR, and it's not
hard to keep track without a program at all. For one thing, most of my
NPCs either die or pull out of gunfights before their guns are empty :)

That shouldn't be too hard to do, I think.

Have you ever tried making a check for every shot fired? Much faster than
using a calculator, and easy to keep track of even if you have lots of
NPCs.

> Anybody out there up to the challenge? :-)

I think I could do it, if you don't mind a 32-bit Windows program.
However, you'd have to wait a few weeks as I have more important stuff to
finish in the mean time...

Mine too..... strange reason being that most of our PC's are damned
lethal. Hell that's realistic; Either you die or he dies.

Personally I go through LOTS of ammo with my characters, but that's
because I like to hose off.... never seem to hit much.

Helps if you're not maths impaired, though. 2+4 = D'oh

Both.

There seems to be a high proportion of fanatics in my games! :-)
Combine that with the fact that we just started an all Merc campaign, and
you have an awful lot of flying lead! :-)

Actually, keeping track of the single bullets isn't bad.
It's remembering the number of shots in each clip, and computing all those
combat modifiers that gets ... tedious is the best way to put it I guess.

32 bit Windows would be wonderful!
If there's anythig I can do to help, let me know!
Thanks a lot!!! :-)

I can imagine that :)

I was messing around with Visual Basic yesterday night, and I've come up
with something that does the basics for now -- i.e. keep track of ammo
expended. I'll mail you a copy privately (no, I'm not going to send it to
anyone else just now, so don't ask me for it, okay? :)

Yep... very plot-driven. It was a very grim plot that involved serioulsy
fragging around with one of the PCs, and diceless was certainly the best
way to go. Mind you, some suspension of disbelief was required when
some dope in a Yellowjacket managed to give an Ares Guardian drone a
Serious damage...yeah... wish *I* could do that...
