numerous people have commented on the effect of gunshot
wounds
(is adam still here he will tell you how many get up )
i have seen numerous things in my spate with the local armed
forces about 10 years back shock and horror stories as well

a guy getting hit in the forehead with a .38 special and the
bullet traversing his skull but not penetrating ( brings new
meaning to the word hard headed ) who once put in the
coroner van suddenly got up

a guy getting hit in the arm with a .222 and dying before
the medic got to him (arterial wound shattered bone )

it has to do with luck and survivability , this is what the
dice are for , you get more dice if you have more
survivability , and you roll them well if your lucky

as a gunshot victim i count myself among the latter , i am
no stronger physically than most other men of my age , so it
must have been luck , the thing SR doesn't reflect very well
is how effective even light wounds are , my hit was a leg
and got a lot of meat and very little bone (methinks it an L
or maybe a M wound) ( thankfully as it was .222 ) i was
still down on the floor not really concentrating on anything
else but why i was there , (BTW i felt nothing till i took a
step forward ) now okay i could hobble around but would i
return fire ? effectively ? by time medevac arrived (+-10
minutes ) i had bled about a leg full ( no i did not have a
measuring jug or the inclination to use it ) and overall
think that i rolled more than my fair share of successes to
resist damage (think assault rifle 8M damage)

but what about other cases where people weren't as lucky ,
they could of been hit well with a light calibre round
(.22LR) and killed stone dead , (Israeli hit squads used
underpowered .22 ) so i tend to favour , for realism sake,
no peak on damage if the shooter hits well , same with H-T-H
if the devil rat bites that jugular well it is game over ,
but for games sake i tend to throw just enough to hurt them
badly ( i have never killed a character yet , stupidity on
the other hand is a wicked fate )

I think that can be covered by the "Professional Rating" rules. This
basically states how much damage you can take before being effectively
out of combat (e.g. being unable to concentrate and do anything useful,
or just trying to get away). Very few people in the game actually have
a rating of 4 (will fight until dead) - only the PC's, some other
shadowrunners and a few major NPCs. Even veteran soldiers usually have
a 3 (fight until they get a Serious Wound).
