Greetings...

I used to GM Shadowrun years back, but stopped about 2 years ago, when I
moved to a different city. Now I am starting to get back in, and was
wondering a few things...

1. Which of the newer source books would people recommend. There
is enough reading material in just relearning the rules from 3rd edition
and the basic supplements (magic, tech, matrix etc). I think the last few
books I bought were Threats, Smugglers Havens and Target: UCAS.

2. Are there any resources on-line that consist of a list of quick
adventure hooks? (I have looked, just haven't had time to delve pretty
deeply into most sites). Looking more for quick references then full blown
modules.

3. Living in Ontario (specifically Kitchener-Waterloo for 8 years,
now Toronto) I was working on a source book for the Great Lakes Sprawl...
it ground to a halt when I stopped GMing, and now I am looking at
restarting the work... I was curious if anyone has contemplated, or worked
on such a thing, but specifically for Ontario / Toronto / London / KW area...

Well... that seems to be the main questions right now...

Welcome back to SR and the list. Just a quick request. Could you please make sure that you
don't send attachments with mail you send to the list? Thanks. And I'll try and take a
stab at the questions when I have a free moment.

According to Epilogue, on Sun, 07 Jul 2002 the word on the street was...

The answer to this question always, IMHO, depends on your group and the
direction you want to take the campaign in (plus the time period in which
it's set). For example, if you want a campaign set in 2055, you can safely
leave Year of the Comet on the game store's shelf, or if you have a
campaign that doesn't include deckers, you don't need Matrix and Target:
Matrix.

Not that I'm aware of, but then, I'm not exactly up to speed on what _is_
available for SR on-line...

There are some out there, one that I've used ideas from is Blackjack's
corner, his quick ideas have in the past given me a stopgap when I've needed
something to fill a session.

blackjack.dumpshock.com

There are loads of shadowrun sites out there and some of them have run ideas
in them, just keep plugging away.

None at first. Start a campaign in a city you know well or default Seattle
and see where the characters want to be from and go to. If there is a
sourcebook for it nab it, else wing it.

Personally I like the older ones, like the Tir books, but if you're only
going to use it once its far too much information and doesn't justify the
price. It takes at least 3 adventures to make a sourcebook worthwhile.

Blackjack had 100 listed (or maybe they were adventure ideas that sounded
like hooks). A lot of them dealt with cybereyes.

It's funny to read about what little has been written about Detroit. Never
developed the area though since my players like Seattle, the NAN lands, and
I am getting thorough use of my Tir book :)

Hhhmm... that piece of advice seems to be typcial across the board. Won't
really be a city, but rather the Great Lakes Sprawl.. having lived in most
regions (St. Catharines, London, KW, and now Toronto).

However, I guess I should have been clearer regarding the sourcebook
question... I don't really care if I have the tech or locale sourcebooks...
I can avoid those issues easily enough by the advice Dan provides above.
However, I was interested in opinions regarding source books like Year of
the Comet. Just how much of an effect does that have on the game world?
I've skimmed reviews online but would rather hear from GMs just what kind of
impact those types of sourcebooks have on their own gameworlds. I am the
type of GM that likes to tightly integrate the official Shadowrun timeline
with my own... makes for a more flavourful campaign world, and less overall
work for me (IMHO).

Actually... I found that the Tir and NAN books provided quite a bit source
material for runs... if you read between the lines and liberally interpreted
the meaning of the comments at times...

I think I remember that resource from a while ago... and wasn't there
something called Hook, Line and Sinker? Or was that from an actual
publication?
