I find I have to agree with Lehlan on this one. I liked some of the new
cyber, even if it was just a couple of things. I -REALLY- like the submarine
admission, especially the transport (though that makes Seaquest(tm) look small
IMHO).

I haven't time to really read it all, but by tomorrow.....and just in time for
the really big fights in the Winternight Wars...Mike M., Jon S., and all the
rest...a tip of Binder's Hat to you all.

Heh..one more quick note. They mention Helium Chills in the book.
A way around this problem, Use Argon for DrySuit inflation.
SOmething I haven't seen yet. (I may have missed it), is an
underwater scooter. (Picture being hauled around by mini-torpedo).
It would cut down your breathing rate (you don't have to kick or
exert yourself), and would pull you along at a very good clip.
Modern cave/technical divers use them to extend penetration, blow
debris off a wreck, etc. Perfect for trying to outrace a megalodon. :)
If I don't find it, I'll see about pulling some stats together
if anybody is interested. (Forgive me, diving is my #1 hobby, and I'm
happy to finally be able to integrate it into SR).

Would that really work? As I understand it, helium chills causes hypothermia
because the high thermal conductivity of He saps away body heat through the
lungs as it is exhaled away. (I certified with scuba two years ago --- yes, it
was I who wrote the underwater rules --- but it didn't cover the use of mixed
gasses, so I had to look that stuff up on the Web. Have never seen any
references to the use of Ar in breathing mixtures, though.)

The Anago (on p. 176) is supposed to be that scooter you're mentioning about.
I basically used the Water Scooter chassis with an electric power plant, and
fudged a bit with the underwater specs.

Heh..whoops that came out unclear. Helium chills result from
using some sort of Mix, and then using the same mix to inflate
your drysuit. To solve the problem, a small (pony) size argon
bottle is used to inflate the drysuit.
My compliments on the rules and writing. You made the technical
stuff clear and concise.

Hmm...I must have overlooked that one. I'll go back in check.
I'm thinking about writing up something to cover CC or Semi-closed
circuit, mixed gas rebreathers as well. (I have this image of
swimming through cave passages, and popping up inside a pirates base,
of course the decompression, would kind of kill the suprise).

If anyone's interested in lots of technical information, there
are a handful of good web sites and mailing lists for diving/technical
diving.
