Subject: Rigger 2 - Maintenance - Overhead.
Date: Fri, 7 Nov 1997 11:43:34 -0500
In Rigger 2, a new animal reared it's head against riggers. Maintenance
costs and Overhead for vehicles. It states in the rules that maintenance
costs are incurred monthly at a rate of :
Cost value ÷ 100 + (10 x Stress points for past month).
Phew that gets ridiculoulsy expensive and has no actual relation to
usage on the vehicle. I agree that if a vehicle is used on normal runs
(combat situations) during that month then the cost should be as the rules
state. However, if the vehicle is not used for that purpose or the
character has the vehicle garaged then the cost of maintenance should be
spread over a period of 3 - 4 months. Using the vehicles mentioned on pg 18
of R2:
[ Vinny Bagodonuts has four vehicles. A modified Hughes Stallion - Cost
¥500,000, an Eurocar Westwind 2000 - cost ¥100,000, a Leyland Rover van -
cost ¥40,000 and an Aztechnology Drone GCR-23c -cost ¥1250. His total cost
for maintenance for that month is ¥6,413. Well that is fine and dandy if
Vinny - a speed freak to begin with was actually using all the vehicles
during that month for runs.
Let's say that he actually does not use the Westwind at all. It is his
pride and joy and he keeps it garaged and drives it only on Sundays when the
weather is nice - Long stretch in Seattle let me tell you. That means that
his actual Maintenance cost would be ¥5,413 per month but every 4 months his
overhead cost would reflect the maintenance for the Westwind adding another
¥1,000 to his costs. ]

I know it won't empty the riggers pockets in the money pit that I as a
GM believe it should go. However, it makes more sense for all characters.
After all the rigger is not the only one who might have a vehicle and a lot
of characters only use their vehicles to get from point A to point B -
usually without any combat or stress points.
