I just noticed on FASA's website that the Rigger 3 Sourcebook was out
today. The race for who posts the first impressions begins now ... [Fades

After calling my local hobby store here in Portland (Brisgetown, if anyone
is interested), they tell me once again that they don't know when they
should be getting Rigger 3 in stock. The FASA website shows it being in
stock, but since I had such a bad experience ordering directly from them
before, I won't order from them again. Anyone seen the book or know where I
can pick it up?

I just got my author copies yesterday, so FASA very likely only
got them back from the printer this week.

It looks good. 208 pages of planes, drones and automobiles.
Lots of helpful tables. Vehicles listed by type rather than
manufacturer, and lots of them. A vehicle design sheet infinitely
better than the one in R2. A decent amount of art, though not very
many examples of specific vehicles. A very complete TOC. Alas, no
fiction, but more gameworld info than R2. All for a $22 cover price.

I apologize if this has been answered. Would the reception of
author copies plus FASA's announcement that they'd ship all in-house
stock (but not make any more) count as confirmation that Rigger 3 _is
definitely_ going to distributors? (Call me stupid if you want but
answer the question too. :)
And how many copies is a typical first publishing run when it comes
to SR books? Is this book going to be really hard to find?

Yes, this is definitely an On-The-Way book. Word was received about a week
before the Press Release of Doom that Rigger 3 had returned from the
printers.

In a few months, maybe. I'm hoping that they made enough to get it on the
shelves, and that WizKids will start a second printing run as soon as they
can. Just hypothesis here, don't beat me if I turn out wrong.

Yes. Author's copies come out of the same boxes that distributor shipments
come from.

I think FASA's print runs for such books start at 5000, then addtional
printings come in lots of 5000. No idea if that will make it hard to find-
it will depend on sales. I don't think it will be inordinately difficult to
get a copy- asking you shop to hold one for you should do the trick.

From France, FASA has taken our money for it for french distribution... so
I really hope we get it soon :-)

I've found myself on more than one occasion learning of a book's release
online and going to Bridgetown to find said book (those would be Fading
Suns, but the occasional FASA product slips in too). They tell me that
the distributors tell them the product doesn't exist. When I tell them
that the book *is* out in some places, they can often shake something
out of one of their distributors.

Check with Ancient Wonders and see if they have it. If they do, well...

The presence of a better vehicle design sheet forgives much in the way
of lack of fiction (and the new core books lack fiction anyway, so...).

Great! I've got lots of questions: Is it a nice coat? Warm? Does
it have deep pockets and can snow get in them? Does the tag chafe
the back of his neck?

Oh, and tell us all about the book, too.

Actually, the coat is rather warm and fuzzy. The pockets will each hold a
1-Liter bottle of pop or 2 1 lb bags of M&Ms. (Nice when going to a theatre,
I can tell you.) Snow doesn't get into them because they velcro shut at the
top. The tag doesn't chafe, as far as my friend tells me. That being said:

> Oh, and tell us all about the book, too.
>

I'm going to give my first impression of this book and then I am going to go
sit down in a warm chair by the fire and read it cover to cover. I'll give
you all more details later, of course. (Boondocker, if you ask about the
chair....... :)

The cover is about what I expected, more art reminiscent of Rigger 2. The
cover features a Yellowjacket, though and missiles inbound and whatnot. The
book itself is 208 pages of Rigging goodness. (Including a full page ad in
the back for the Marauders group...now that FASA is going out of business,
what'll happen to them, I wonder?)

Next, my initial reactions in about this order:

1) They have Railguns?!?!?!
2) Where's the Stonewall???
3) I can build my own BergenT?!?!??! WOO-HOO!!!!!

Now then, seriously, though. I think one of my biggest problems is going to
be railguns, but I don't think that's going to get out of hand. (Although
with the addition of the Extra-Large Walker Chassis, I can already hear my
players chanting "Battlemech! Battlemech! Battlemech!".)

Oh, and finally, who's going to be able to afford a Nuclear Aircraft Carrier
let alone build it?!?

Zebulin

PS: More to come after I read this monster. And for anyone interested,
Bridgetown Hobbies on Sandy Blvd in Portland OR had about 20 copies left
after my friend and I bought ours, and they had more behind the counter. FYI

*Checks wallet* Uhm, is the Military Vehicle Vending Machine "exact

These have been around for a while, for instance the Aztlan sourcebook
mentions them (and has stats in the back).

> 2) Where's the Stonewall???

Gone, I hope... That was probably the silliest vehicle in SR, and I'm glad
it's been done away with for good :)

> Oh, and finally, who's going to be able to afford a Nuclear Aircraft Carrier

I don't think the idea behind that one (or most other ships, for that
matter) is that the PCs buy one, if that's what your question is about.
Rather, if it has stats then it's easier to use in adventures; not
including it will cause people to say "But what if I want to harrass my
Cyberpirates PCs with an aircraft carrier? Why didn't FASA include stats
for it?!"

I seem to recall similar comments during the writing phase. If Jon
logs in I'm sure he could confirm this better.

The UCAS, the Imperial Japanese Navy... and the Royal Navy considered it
but it lost out in the COEIA to two conventionally-powered CVs :)

Hell they have them nowadays and with more reactors than the three the one
in the book has. Having said that I assume your question was with regards to
runners, if so the answer is nobody unless they do a run on Fort Knox.

Or perform a run onto an aircraft carrier.

Not me, and I have a feeling a lot of what'd be on such a map, would be
stamped "classified" by whatever navy owns the ship... From having watched
some aircraft carrier documentaries on Discovery Channel, and having walked
around on a WWII-era battleship a few years ago, I imagine it would be a
maze of rooms and corridors that a GM could make up on the fly when PCs do
get aboard a ship like this.

I'd recommend "Final Flight" by Stephen Coonts as a very good read: it's
about a Libyan-sponsored terrorist attack on a US aircraft carrier, with
the intention of stealing nuclear weapons from the bomblocker. Written
by a retired naval aviator, it's a very good description of how such an
attack might be conducted.

Nearest I can find is

Which is actually photo's of some hatches inside the USS Enterprise

Seriously, try looking at the Janes books. If anything had it, Janes would.
