In the first SR trilogy, (which I didn't pay anything to read),
there was a rigger who:

A) Had little tiny remote control cars with pistols and autopilots.
B) Rigged a building, which was apparently standard practice. (If
you can get an unsecured jack, or else unsecure a jack, this is
*so* much better than a decker wandering through dozens of nodes
to control building internals.)
C) Apparently had some small surveilance drones, one of which got
nailed by some other drone.

So I figure that the biggest reason for the meat is that the drones
tend not to have manipulative ability, and that their radio emissions
are detectable (and jammable.)

But yeah, with a couple of decent riggers nearby and suprise, who
needs sammies.

For the same reason you don't see power-amplified body armor everywhere. A
human can go places and do things a mechanical just can't. There are even
plenty of psychological reasons for having a living go in. For example, on
an extraction run, who's going to have a harder time keeping a paniced
extractee calm and moving, some grating voice coming from a speaker grille
or a live human being they can see and hear and feel?

That's what the mages and shamans are for.

Whos going to have a harder time keeping a panicked extractee calm
a big muscular bloke with an uzi, a metal arm and solid black eyes
or a charismatic mage with no obvious cyber and no obvious threatening weapons

When the drek hits the fan and it's time not to be subtle anymore who
do you want on your side:
a guy with an uzi
a metal armoured mobile box with a HMG

see you around people

The mage with the high charisma and no obvious cyber.

It depends on how the extractee percieves the situation, if he/she is
just in a state of panic the cyberdude is fine. If he however
belives the runners to be hostile a flesh and blood human would
do by far a better job at calming him down. If hethinks that the
runners a friendly, it doesnt matter.

It depends, how intelligent is this metal armoured mobile box with a HMG,
are you techophobic/technophilic ?
I expect that your average man on the street would feel much
more comfortable with the guy with an uzi, while a rigger-decker
would probably prefer the machine knowing that its more acurate,
tougher, not prone to fear etc. than your average human.

Ah, of course, you have it!

The correct answer to any question is in fact:

"Weeell, it depends...."
