Another one for ya all.

Bill Bixby, famous for playing David (or was it Bruce?) Banner (aka the
Incredible Hulk), passed away this morning of complications due to
cancer. He was fifty-nine.

Yes, this isn't SR related, but so what.

Bill Bixby was also directing NBC's _Blossom_, I show I enjoy because it deals
with a far-less-than-perfect family (recoving alocoholic/drug-abuser older bro-
ther, divorced father, ex-juvenile deliquent boyfriend, best friend currently
experiencing serious psychological problems, etc)- sorta the reality for most
of us between the Cosby Show and Married, With Children. I thought Mr. Bixby's
work on that show was exceptional for a sitcom, and suspect that with him gone,
the show will take a turn for the worse.

Also, does anyone remember Bill Bixby's earlier TV endeavors, _The Magician_ &
_My Favorite Martian_? Or am I just dating myself here?

We'll miss ya, Bill.

Frank Zappa, well known musician, libertarian, and defender of
constitutional rights, and staunch defender of the right to free
speech challenged by American censorship groups, passed away today of
complications related to cancer.

He is most famous for a warning label he placed on one of his records:

WARNING: this record contains lyrics that people in a free society
wouldn't really make an issue over (paraphrased).

P.S. Betcha Vice President Al Gore won't miss him. Frank made a fool of

No, unfortunately its true, MTV has been running specials on it
all evening. Apparently there was a suicide note, but the police have not
yet released the contents of it -- they probably want to get in touch with
Cobain's wife, Courtney Love, before making any official announcement.

No April Fool's Day. I doubt it's a joke. Besides which, I've also
heard it verified from MTV, two news notes, and a couple of my brother's
friends.

Yes, it's going to be a different world now. Nirvana is officially
screwed up. BIG time. And the fact that it was a suicide...just makes it
worse, doesn't it?

I'm not sure if this is worse than having John Candy die, but it's
certainly close.

Of course, now MTV is going to have a pile of Nirvana-a-thons...

I suppose I'm biased, as I've never been a fan of Nirvana...

Look, Kurt was a very wealthy man with (apparently) a great talent that
many people enjoyed. From what I've been hearing, he was bothered by a
stomach illness, addictions to various illegal substances, and (he
claimed) a great deal of unwanted press and fame. He chose to simply end
his life.

I really cannot feel badly about this situation, as I have no respect for
those who premeditatively committ suicide. I feel we all know too little
about human life to simply end it on a decision that could be made as the
result of a particularly bad day. 1993 was an absolutely wretched year
for me, but, unlike many my age, the thought of suicide never crossed my
mind.

I certainly don't expect much support of what I've said, and I don't mean
to start any kind of debate on morality, but I just wanted to toss in my
two-and-a-half cents (been so long it's gained interest).

And to the purists, I apologize for the non-SR raving...

pity for a man that thinks killing himself is the only way out. Well,
maybe I am a little bit biased (I guess if somebody close to me killed
himself I would mourn). I didn't like his music either. In fact, the only
thing good that came from him was "Wierd" Al's parody of 'Smells Like
Teen Spirit'.

Ok, enough with Kurt Cobain now. He is gone and we just have to live with it.

No offence to anyone.

I was a fan of Nirvana, but I can't exactly say I wasn't surprised when I heard
he blew his brains out. I can't really say I feel sorry for him either. The
guy may have been a good musician, but he had a lot of problems and he choser theasy way
out. However, I can't say I feel no remorse either, but I don't think
it merits an all-weekend Nirvana tribute or anything whent he guy is killed by
his own stupidity.
