party died this morning from a massive heart attack. He was 55 and had a
wife and three daughters.
The man will be remembered for his humor, honesty and commitment to his party
and the country. He could well have been Britain's next prime minister, indeed
things were looking good for his party in recent local elections.
He was respected and liked by all parties and was an excellent parliamentarian,
fighting for what he believed was right and in the last general election
standing out to state what his party's policy on taxation was, a stand that
many thought was responsible for Labour losing the last election.
His honesty and warmth won him many friends though, especially in Scotland
where his constituency was, indeed many Scots looked to him to instigate a
Scottish assembly should the Labour party gain power.
All in all he was what was quoted on the lunch time news a "very Scottish and
a very British man".
Phill.
