I personal don't think, that the sample could be traced back if i.e. someone
else has some blood of the character. Then you could break down for example
all houses build of a special stone from a special place if you have one piece
of this stone at hand. But the Charakter can of cuorse use himself as a link to
his own blood.
There might be some astral barrier arround that sample :-).

Interesting thought. In England Portland stone is the most prized for making
buildings, most of the really important stately homes and buildings in London
<including Buck House> are made from it. Imagine this, a run on the Portland
stone quarry <there's only one> to steal one piece of stone. Imagine what a
bunch of magical terrorists could do with it ?

Not so, IMHO. The way I see it, the material link must be something
that has acutally been an intimate part of the target, ie. a brick
from the building. Stones that have not yet been used are not yet
part of any building and are therefore useless as material links for
targeting ritual sorcery (except for Flame Bombing the quarry).

On the other hand, virgin Portland stone could be useful as part of a
focus for a "Ram Stately Homes" spell.....

I don't think this is possible. After cutting the stones out of the quarry
they're formed to build the houses. The idea behind the link is that such
a house shares a common aura and therefore if you possess part of the house
you possess a hint to the aura. This aura forms with the house (not before)
and the stone looses its connections to the quarry during this process.
Otherwise if you ate a pig and someone would make nice leather trousers out
of its skin these trousers would count as a symbolic link to you 'cause
some of the atoms of the pig are built into your body...
