Related to that, this afternoon I went to the library to see whether I
could find anything on Seattle. I ended up with two books that may be
useful:

The first is Insight Guides "Seattle", edited by John Wilcock and
publishedin 1993 by APA Publications (HK) Limited from Hong Kong, ISBN
0-395-65989-2 in North America, or ISBN 9-62421-176-0 in the rest of the
world. This book sort of describes Seattle, its history, peculiarities,
areas around the city, and so on. It has loads of color photos, useful for
getting an idea of what the city looks like, though many of them are a bit
too art-like to be truly useful -- for example a shot of the underside of
the Space Needle through some piece of red-painted art. In the back is a
sort of tourists' guide with travel tips, hotels, restaurants, etc. There
are also five maps. Oh, and Microsoft-haters best avoid page 201 :)

The other book I found is the Washington Handbook (there are also others,
like Oregon Handbook, Texas Handbook, and more; I assume there's one on
each state in the USA). This was written by Archie Satterfield and Dianne
J. Boulerice Lyons, published in 1994 by Moon Publications, Inc. and ISBN
1-56691-055-2. As the name suggests this covers the whole state of
Washington, and is also aimed at tourists and other visitors. There are a
good number of maps in the book, though they'r not really useful if you
hope to get an idea of the land itself, since they mainly show roads. It
also has less pictures than the above and all of them in b&w, but there is
a pic of the monorail on page 53 :) In this book, though, there are also
some maps of places not covered by the Insight Guides book, but which are
part of the Seattle Metroplex in SR.

Thanks for that Gurth, I have some ammunition to go to the local failure
with and slap a few heads. Hopefully the useless blighters will be able
to find something other than their own backsides this time.

Depending on how things go, I'll let you know if I meet with any
success.
