I was wondering if anyone could help me out with brainstorming ideas for
an upcoming adventure.
It's a complicated story, but the basics are that the runners are being
sent from Seattle to drop off a package (Prototype Ares MP) in Denver.
I'm giving them enough forged travel passes to get there, as long as they
don't try shooting up checkpoints or flashing heavy ordinance, but I want
some fun things for them to hit on the way through. I'd like some reason
for them to get off of the major highways, because I have a couple of fun
encounters set for little towns in the middle of nowhere, but I'd like a
few more.

The team:
A rigger with just a Bulldog van, and a couple of non-military drones
A Coyote shaman who has just been called to Coyote
A former football benchwarmer physical adept
An ex-star officer with an aversion to guns

The shaman and adept are new to Shadowrun, and none of the characters has
more than 30 Karma yet. The trip is taking place around March 2050.

So far, I was going to have a random nut start shooting people in a
cafeteria along the way. Moral dilemma: Save the people and get caught in
the limelite, or bug out and leave the other customers to die
The other idea I'm using is a small insect nest starting up in a small
town along the way. In typical horror movie fashion, the van will break
down just outside of town, with a convenient junkyard to supply spare
parts for the rigger. Being the inquisitive lot they are, they're likely
to come across lots of clues, and maybe go up against the Insects if
they're not lucky. If they're resourceful enough, they should be able to
use the MP laser in their possession to fight off the insects (Just the 20
shots tho, no spare batteries!) and make it out of town alive.

This should get them to the outskirts of Denver, where they'll make the
drop, but I wanted a few more things to make the trip there and back a
little more interesting. The ideas don't have to be dangerous, in fact,
I'd prefer non-violent encounters, due to the low power of the group
(Nobody carries anything heavier than a pistol except the rigger, who has
a light machine gun he's trying to attach to his van)

I don't have the Native American Nations sourcebooks, but if they'd be
really handy, I might be able to dig them up somewhere.

The background leading up to this:
They screwed up a run big time, and were nabbed by the Star. A new Yakuza
clan attempting to secretly infiltrate Seattle pulled some strings to help
them escape. Currently, they've been hired to re-route a shipment of Ares
weapons to a warehouse near a large gang. Once Ares notices the shipment
is missing they'll use the tracking devices in the weapon packaging to
track it right to the gangs doorstep. The yaks are counting on a shoot
first, question later policy to remove the gang, and let them move in on
the power vacuum without causing too many waves. At the same time,
another team in assigned to infiltrate and steal the prototype MP laser in
question while the security is busy shooting up gangers. They'll get shot
up in the process, and not be able to take it to Denver as they were
supposed to. The yaks will have them pass the buck onto the players,
along with the travel passes and some cash that they were going to use for
the trip. This also has the added benefit of getting the players out of
the city for a while, so that the assassin who is chasing them will be
less likely to kill them all off.

I ran a run like this once, which ended up fairly amusing. There,
they were hired to hijack a huge 18 wheeler rig with a large tank,
and get it to (some city or other). They were told it contained oil,
IIRC. (Which is kinda valuable in 2057, but not *that* valuable). It
really contained a captured Gorgon. And whoever had captured it had
someone talkative that had sold the info to everyone he could reach.
Which meant there was three other teams out to hijack the rig. Now
the rig was so large that it had to use fairly major roads, which
made things amusing. The team was low power as well (just starting
out) - the point wasn't that they would fight off the hijackers.

It was getting the different hijackers to fight off each other.

It worked out in a fairly memorable way. (They were increasingly
suspicious about their cargo, too... which also made its presence
known in different ways. It's a dracoform, after all... and each
hijacker group knew different pieces of the puzzle.).

Hope you can use some of this..

Well, I've a few ideas...
The first one is a bit violent, but hey, it's an idea anyway. ;).
A motor-gang catches up with the runners. They decide to have a bit of fun.
They have no guns, only clubs and iron staves. Maybe the gang-boss has a
shotgun or something... Have you seen Akira? Then you might want to get some
inspiration from the 'clowns' gang. Great movie BTW, but I'm getting OT here
(Like that never happens. ;))
Second. Some criminals have escaped from some prison or the other. They have
last been seen around the highways. So, there are more patrols, and the
checkpoints have become less-trusting. Let the players sweat a bit, and just
before they get discovered, the criminals are found. Or you could get the
criminals to stowaway on the riggers van, and the team only discovers them
when it's too late ie when they are pulled over by a patrol.

Well, just my 2 yen.

<snip the background, etc.>

If the rigger is a bit macho, have an ancient pickup truck full of
drunk dwarven miners pull up to drag race him. Make the pickup somehow keep
up no matter waht the rigger tries, complete with catcalls and insults from
the drunkards in the back of the pickup.
Or you could have them run into those extremely large trucks from
_Shadowplay_. Perhaps a gang has picked up a few, and are drag racing them.
Naturally they're going the opposite direction, and taking up all available
lanes.....

Well i am speaking about aliens in general, not the ones out of HR Giegers
creations. There was many reports of aliens prior to the time line of
shadow run but it is never mentioned in the book. Maybe they are scared of
all the paraanimals :/

Personally? I would have to give a very firm 'no'. Aliens just don't fit
into my conception of the SR gameworld. Spirits in space, maybe. But
aliens? Not this century.
