That way of saying it is much easier to understand...

I wasn't accusing you of anything, you know :)

That sounds like a recipe for disaster to me...

There's a female player in my group as well, and as I understand it she's
an ex-girlfriend of another of the players which does lead to a bit of
friction sometimes. Perhaps we've been lucky in that he hasn't been able
to play for a few weeks now, but I'm hoping everything won't blow up at
some time in the future.

(Said player also wants to join this list now that he's got email access.
I'm wondering whether to give him the address or spare you lot from him :)

That sounds a bit too PC :)

<mini rant>

If it does and it's interfering with the game just tell them to knock
it off or take it outside. Don't let players get away with
disrupting the game or the group.

Let us at him ;)

Gurth, every player on this list would commit spontaneous suicide if
M. would get here, get my drift? ;-)

Great ideas, glorious words, David. Unfortunately, it's not that easy,
as I had to learn over a few occasions. The problem is _not_ the
players getting at their throats. Problems arise in inter-character
relationship - when one ex-lover's char does something that just
_might_ be an insult to the other's - how does [s]he react? And how
does the poor char react (that is stuck between the players...). It's
all very subtle, often not even noticable by other players (and/or the
GM) who just suddenly notice there's some kind of tension.

Plus, the players themselves - I assume they both _want_ to continue
playing - will have problem in each other's presence in most cases (as
far as my experience reaches, most broken loves have bitter aftertastes
{is that a word?} for at least one party) which will add to the
tension.

It's usually not the player's fault, who - hopefully - will try to
maintain "normal" reactions, but there is tension - always keeping in
mind to react 'neutral' to your ex-lover does distract you somewhat, I
suppose, small things, gestures, ..., remembered from 'before'.

Do you really want to punish players who try to give their best?

Sascha

<tries to remember what he was talking about when he ranted..>

Geez Sascha, why are you a week behind on email? :)

If the player's relationship(s) is seriously affecting game play then
the GM and the other players should tell them to work it out, in a
friendly helpful way. If it's just causing some minor tension then
it's their problem. I don't mean to be gruff about it. And there's
a lot of grey area when this kind of think comes up, and it would
require a couple thousand lines of rambling to cover everything. My
rant was based on what I knew (or thought I knew) at the time (I
think :)
