Well, here's a little bit of NERPS to play with... what would role-playing be
like in 205X? After all, while simsense would be fun, it doesn't have the
level of choice that make most of our games Hell on Earth. What kinds of
games will be popular when the guy down the street _can_ cast a fireball at a
troll (if he doesn't mind getting arrested for 1st degree murder, of course)?

I think we can safely assume that a game like Shadowrun would definitely be
out there (just like Top Secret SI and Ninja's and Superspies are... or were
out there in the modern world)... not because its a FASA game, but because we
today have games that let us play the kinds of things we think are "cool"
without having all the uncomfortable problems that go with them (sure, we've
all played a mercenary on campaign... but how many of us have done it by
sitting in the rain with 100# of gear, waiting for the GM to walk into the
killzone?).

I think that magic systems for fantasy games would try very hard to be
realistic... after all, you think the rules debates about guns get bad?
Imagine if one of the guys you play with not only says the company has the
maet-physics wrong, he can actually prove it, and has the Magic Faculty of
MIT&T to back him up?

Anyone else have any thoughts on what would be popular, and other things about
the games that we love to argue about on this list?
