I just snipped this off the uk.games.roleplay newsgroup...
(As most of you won't have access to it...)

I was rather amused by it......

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who is The Lad of role-playing ? Does he exist ? Is he to be found in
the editorial staff of arcane. I think not. In my experience, and again it
is totally subjective, the Lad's of role-playing, should a fellow
role-player wish to encounter them ( whether male or female ) is to be
found at the many University based role-playing clubs throughout the
country. They are usually the loudest and the brashest, often making more
noise than the game demands. The game is often Shadowrun, for some strange
reason, the players are all males between 18 and 25, and the game consists
of little plot, little description and lots of overpowered characters with
big guns. They also have lots of fights. I saw this at a role-playing club
at a Scottish University which will remain nameless, and I had never seen a
game full of so much testosterone in my life, neither have I seen a GM run
a game with so little description. It was amazing, he deserved an oscar for
a new art form. As for the one woman in the game, well she tried her best
to create a bit of character, but she was swamped by the male egos more
interested in their guns. Now, most male players do not play this type of
role-playing game ( unless they get hold of Shadowrun which in my
experience seems to adversely effect the male psyche ) but it does happen.
Saying that, this role-playing club seemed to be a bit extreme in every
sense, as halfway through the game a group eight black clad, long haired
goth types walked in and sat in a dark corner. Everyone playing Shadowrun
looked at each other, shivered and said: "Vampire Players". Mmmmmmm......it
was an interesting experience.

Why did I post this ? To show that while arcane articles may be general and
'useless' to the enlightened here, I don't think that is the norm, a lot of
people could do with using some of the advice we take for granted in arcane
articles to heart. Also, it explains where some of the ideas on male
role-players presented in the female role-players article arcane come from.
Then this is to be expected Women are form Venus and Men are from Mars. I
wonder if it is a coincidence that the Men get the planet in which the evil
Martians come from.

Don't take this too seriously, just thought I would give a warning....this
is USENET after all.
