I was going through my mailboxes and found this message in the
drafts folder. Apparently, I was replying to someone, was
interrupted, and never got back to it. So very belatedly,
my thoughts on the matter...
Of course, a SR campaign with real RTS superconductors
could be fun...

You don't really need true room temperature superconductors (RTS)
for these or any of the specifically listed areas where RTS are
used. From a game standpoint, NEAR RTS would work just as well,
while leaving in sufficient inefficiency to prevent the really
obnoxious game effects. Take, for example, lasers. They
currently need a power pack of varying size, from belt to
backpack, to fire a few shots. Pretty realistic with near RTS.
If you assume true RTS, there would be nothing to prevent more
Star Wars style weaponry. You could literally have a hand held
laser pistol which could fire _a lot_ of shots. You could have
practical hand held gauss (magnetic accelerator) weaponry.
Mind you, I'm not saying that these are bad things, I am just
agreeing with the original poster. The world and feel of SR
does not take into account RTS, but do work fine with near
RTS.
Regards,
CSR
