hey didn't someone post a rumor about a book coming out that
would detail all the stats and histories of Sr characters featured in the
novels. For instance, i would particularly like to see the stats for a
character like Niall out of nosferatu. Last message i promise!!

If this is true, I too would appreciate some confirmation. Also,
anyone know if there's a chance that anyone from the sourcebooks would
get their stats published? I, personally, would simply _love_ to see
the stats for Rabid. He was the (seemingly) remarkably talented bounty
hunter involved in much of the discussion in Para's of Europe. If this
fragger lived through all those creatures, then I'd like to see just
what it took. ;)

-Calvinoi MindFlyer

P.S. I do kinda' hope that the stats for characters like Harlequin
don't get published. For me, at least, it would take away some of the
mystery surrounding char's like -H-. Welp, just my .02 nuyen!

A rumor not entirely lacking in alacrity, yet slightly inaccurate as to
the details. According to FASA, planned for October release is a tome
dubbed, "Prime Runners," described as a rogue's gallery of sorts of NPC's
and Contacts.

When I queried the Dark Lord on High as to the rumor (of which I, too,
was aware) had that various figures from the novels would appear, he said
that although a few such personalities /may/ be contained therein, the
majority would not.

The reasoning for this was that they did not wish to issue statistics for
the fictional characters which would tie the authors down to certain
capabilities; in his own words, "Once we put down numbers, they're stuck
with them."

This situation was one FASA wished to avoid. So, the answer to your
question is "probably not."

I can honestly tell you that the rumor of FASA attempting a competition with Games
Workshop in the figs business is false. After checking out the story I found out that the
people of FASA went under for other reasons. However, one of the people who created Mage
Knight (Wiz Kids) is supposedly a part of FASA. This person has also supposedly bought
the rights to Shadowrun and Battletech and it is not clear what intentions with these
games are. DO NOT TAKE THIS INFO AS GOSPEL AS I WILL ADMIT IT IS NOT FROM A 100% reliable
source. The situation is still in it's early stages and anything is possible. But, this
is the only bit of information I've been able to find.

Sean, you're not really revealing anything new here. There's actually a quite interesting
thread out on the dumpshock forums that originated from Jason Weisling (sp?) the current
owner of Wizkids Games and his (albeit brief) comments about the Shadowrun and Battletech
lines. I'm still unclear though, as I've heard two stories. Did Jason, or his father,
create the original Battletech and Shadowrun?

Thanks Mark,

I realized shortly after my sending off of this e-mail that I had his name
all wrong. Thanks for the correction.

You don't need to be a member to read them.. ;-)

"To all,
I, and I am sure all the people at FASA, are touched by your passion for
Shadowrun and appreciation of their efforts in bringing this world and game
to you. The treads are many in here and I cannot attempt to answer them
all, especially since I myself do not have all the answers yet, but let me
say a couple of things at this point.

First I think it is important to place FASA in its historical position.
Ross and I founded the company 21 years ago – making it one of the longest
lasting in the industry. FASA helped dramatically raise the bar on
production values and shifted gaming from being system focused to universe
focused. I am, I hope all the talented people that worked at FASA over the
years are, very proud of these things and the many many more contributions
that we made to this hobby that we all love.

It is sad and shocking that FASA had to make this painful decision, but it
was driven their by one simple fact – not enough sales. Disecting the
reason for not enough sales is a much more complicated task that must take
into account the market, the consumers tastes, the distribution system, the
retailers, and the competition between paper gaming and other entertainment
mediums. All of these elements have changed radically over the last 20
years and FASA tried to change with them – but ultimately maybe not enough.
I know that some of you have speculated that this must have been in the
plans for months this was not the case. The management of FASA was so
focused on trying to make it work, to keep it going, that they had played
the string all the way out to the end, and thus when realizing that needed
to act quickly.

As some of you may know, I was the creator of the core of the Shadowrun
universe and drove the first editions development. It has always had a very
special place in my heart as I feel that the ideas and potential in the
Shadowrun universe represent some of my best work. Thus I can promise you
that Shadowrun will not slip silently into the night forever. As for what
the product plan is I have to ask for your patience and understanding as we
first try to find good people jobs and then after the dust settles – start
working on a product plan.

As you can understand, my schedule has been and will be overwhelming for a
while and thus I doubt that I will be able to answer the questions that
this post will surely generate – at least in the short term. But after we
do get things figured out I will check back in.

Thanks in advance for your patience.

I'm still impressed by that post, especially by the fact that he came out so
quickly to post it. Ever since seeing it, I've seen the future of Shadowun
in a much brighter light.
