wish:
1. Some corp researcher is reading an _old_ text on magical
matters, so old that it could give Strom Thurmond a run for his money...
:^)
2. In it he sees a reference to an occurence in which the writer
was involved during which a fellow magic user's "severence" from the
"magical realm" is healed. Maybe a paragraph, like a side anecdote in the
main flow of the text (sort of a fermat's last theorm kinda thing where
something important is scribbled in the margins).
3. Immeadiately the corp researcher thinks "Does he mean restoring
Essence? That's the only way magic could be restored to an awakened
person who had somehow become mundane!"
4. He then does further reading on that text and others for a
period of time and discovers what he thinks is the location of the
grimoire containig the neccessary ritual(s). Bummer is, his corp has no
assets at all in that region and the political climate is such that no
obvious involvement on their part would work.
5. The PCs get hired to go "aquire" the thing.
As the GM, you could have the book be anywhere you wanted to make life
interesting for the PCs. Also, what if some other organization found out
and sent a team as well? This would be magical dynamite, after all.
Also, who says ou have to lose your cyber? Maybe the ritual allows for
"modification" of the subject's astral template or whatever the correct
term is such that it "accepts" the characters modifications?
